He didn’t launch a competitor, but Zuckerberg approved the blocking of Vine’s API access to find Facebook friends a few days after it launched.

TikTok must have paid a pretty penny to have access to it today.

Columbia also has the School of General Studies for non-traditional undergraduate students. Tuition is $58,440 an academic year, not including their estimated $26,010 cost of living, and they don’t offer much financial aid.

My biggest issue with Twitter these days is that my curated social garden keeps being invaded by engagement farmers who use the thread feature to post obnoxious listicles. I’m constantly being recommended tweets like these in my feed:

“I hunted, killed, and ate a wild baboon (brains and all)…Here are the 13 things I learned about human health along the way.”

“I read all 40,000 words from Jeff Bezos' Amazon shareholder letters. Here are 9 lessons worth your time:”

“We keep seeing the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. This is a feature of the system, not a bug. Time for a thread”

They remind me of Buzzfeed articles back in the early 2010s and there’s no way to turn it off besides muting the word thread and its emoji.

I had the pleasure of being a test subject for my local hospital’s new 7T last week. They strapped my head down to the table and I was only able to listen to the intermittent “DO-DO-DO-DO” of the machine, while a mirrored television played 15 minute aerial footage of Norway’s fjords on repeat for an hour. Reminded me a little of the brainwashing scene from A Clockwork Orange.

The radiology report said, “No significant incidental findings identified,” so that’s good at least.

Apple’s continued promotion of TikTok is bizarre to me considering all their problems with Facebook. Craig Federighi promoted it last WWDC too.

Here Apple says look at what this new iPad camera can do on TikTok and then they move on to look at how much we care about your privacy in the same event.

Even if TikTok got banned, we still have Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Snap Spotlight, and whatever Reddit is planning on doing to fill the void. Pandora’s Box has already opened—short video is here to stay.

The one thing I really miss about my Dell laptop is being able to call support and having them overnight ship replacement parts so the tech can come over to my place the next afternoon and fix it. The next available service appointment for someone at the Apple Store to take a look at my MacBook Pro’s malfunctioning keyboard won’t be until 4:20PM next week.

I’ve noticed most the re-uploaded content on Reels are from meme accounts and not the actual TikTok user themselves, which leads me to believe its shortcomings are more of a content and cultural issue.

Instagram has become way more formal and people’s profiles are carefully curated now. Posting silly trends or going on live on Instagram would be a form of social suicide for many.

I’m shocked to see YouTube not even make AppAnnie’s top ten list at all. More people downloaded Twitter and Telegram over YouTube last year? Really?

Bytedance spent a billion dollars acquiring Musically’s user base and burnt a couple more billion on marketing for TikTok to take off.

Social media startups are still DOA in my book.

I just don’t understand the glee over Clubhouse’s demise. They tried something different and it failed. People complain on and on about Facebook and Twitter but when a new social app comes around it seemed like people already had knives out for it.

It’s just kinda sad to see the only new social media app to breakthrough was TikTok and that required an already massive company like Bytedance being able to burn billions of dollars on marketing for it to succeed.
