I'm the market for a replacement for a 5yr sony bravia 3D replacement which I love. Your question is answered like any other question about which electronics; your budget. As I'm gleaning the market, few things I'm keeping in mind:

1. dumb as possible, no OEM OS like webos/roku etc. use ext. smart box

2. HDMI w CEC to be controllable w/ ext receiver

3. LCD/OLED have burn-in like your phone. just fyi. Particularly OLED.

4. want local dimming

5. want HDR's as many as it supports

6. you want class A screens likes of which manuf are; sharp, sony etc.. but now includes lowend like Vizio

7. look at reviews for screen edge bleeding.. I hate that.

IMHO every brand at every model level has diff screen/tech so one can't definitively say one brand is better. Your budget should dictate what you end up buying. I think what one sees is subjective. Only reviews showing things like contrast levels, bleeding and color reproduction are you only objective parameters to steer you.

[EDIT] forgot to mention that if you like so many others use ext. box to stream. Remember that all your TV settings for color, Hz etc can be over written by your ext box. So the quality of your ext. streamer will also dictate the quality of your videos.

This is basically the Quantify Self movement. I have a picture of every meal since 2005. Currently past 15K images. All taken under similar lighting and angle in the hopes I can analyze later. Not knowing ML was coming. i may still do that but what I wish I did more/better job of is health. If in a spreadsheet let's say noted things like mood, energy, times of most production, life happiness etc. Now in my 40's with aliments. I wish I had the data to see maybe when/where/what about things that are taking place now. Including eccky things like BM info like when, type etc... also including lipid panel info etc when you typically do a full blood workup. Moving job to job diff health care to health care. There is no exportable consistent dataset you can "carry" with you maybe until now but even now it's painful as they don't allow for easy export.

How many times have you gone to your doc and get asked a basic "when did this start?" question and/or what were you doing 2 mons when it started.

There is a evolution in health care monitoring going on which can lead to incredible insights into your health both mental and physical, but then so does the world where it may judge you based on what you have now that you can't keep anything a secret.

Hit me up. I feel the same and actually did roughly the same. Are you in the bayarea by any chance? email: lakota gmail

What you and I area looking for in essence is a life coach. I'm not one but fatherless all my life, it seems having someone to bounce ideas and finding purpose may help. Not necessarily that i have an answer for either of us but having no one to talk to doesn't help. Wife is not someone whom this topic is either ideal or would go too well.

Again, I'm not selling you anything but to tell you I feel the same. Just looking for a chat bud who is maybe willing to share each other's burden but also maybe the sounding board will shed some light in the end of the tunnel.

In my 40's w a 2yr toddler and wife, I'm about to be jobless after my contract ends. thank god! but not thankful not knowing what to do next....

Well back in 2019 there wasn't a model Y but I'm getting one soon! As for long trips, yeah there was some trepidation hearing of all the anti-tesla blocking tactics you hear, but none found so far. The longest has been to LA and back from SF and it's was smooth. The trip maker designs your trip so that you'll never be in danger of out of charge. Also made many trips to Tahoe from SF and no problem there either. Many charge points along the way also making it a nice pit stop for eats and restrooms.

Actually it's much like the old days of road trips where your trip isn't just the destination but the route to the your destination can be fun too.

PS> you can get onto Tesla's site and plan your trip. you can see for yourself depending on the Tesla model where you'll need to divert to charge if even needing to divert. Most Superchargers are along most major thoroughfares including some destination like SF Zoo has SC too. Here's the link: https://www.tesla.com/trips Here's a route from SF to LA based on my Model 3

I 2nd the obvious notion of trying to fix a problem. But this is a loaded question. There is a million answers to this single question all stemming from who/what/where/when you want to find a solution for. Like everyone else, I have a billion ideas but one thing to try and it does work that I learned from Amazon is working backwards from the problem, then do the obvious of cost analysis short term then long depending on if you're trying to make money right away or aggregate a critical mass first before trying to figure out how to make money. Of course the obvious notion is one doesn't need money but the 2nd options needs much up front ie. organic growth or get VC funding for all out blitz.

Also go on reddit, HN commenters don't vent here, but you can find plenty of venting on reddit. You will no doubt find problems to resolve and if that isn't enough. There is even a sub for startup app ideas where people for the most part not capable of developing it themselves come there to "vent" why isn't there an app that does ...... ?

2019 Tesla Model 3. Electric is the way to go and can't say enough goodness about Tesla. After the state/fed rebates I think my Std Plus came in around $27K. Now here's the best part: paid total of $20 in 2yrs for charging in >20K miles. During day, my work pays for charging so it's fully charge all the time and if not work like during the pandemic, target has free charging and other locations, of course most are not free. I've had no other cost to maintain the car at all in the 2yrs. Considering one could pay $4/gal with 25mpg comes to $3,200 in gas I saved not to mention no oil/filter changes either. It's great, while charging for free at Target, I'm streaming Netflix or Youtube onto the car's dashboard while working on my laptop. A complete mobile home office :)

thanks. yeah a lot of angst and resentment here. I was truly naïve when I came to CA/adulthood. I thought.. wow. Kool stuff interesting people, best ideas. To my disappointment, behind the curtains were very manipulative very very small boy's club. If you want to see something realistic, watch the fictionalized docudrama: The Social Network starting at time 9:00mins The ivy league clueless boys have the connections, coders have the idea/product/dedication to their craft however clueless. What zuck got right was the right mentors who also happen to make an accidental killing. Just truly sad how things work. No diff in any industry however.

There was one partnership that did work. Primarily I suspect due to lack of "Ivy league" connections: Steve Jobs/Woz. Two very naïve but smart people lacking the not yet tainted by the ivy leaguers created an empire built on good foundation. Albeit Jobs could have been nicer ;) I worked in his environment and he was scary as you see him on shows dramatized or not. Met him in hallways/cafe.. he never ever smiled but did worship him. He knew what to steal, how to exploit then productize to make people happy. Honestly, 90% of the products he facilitated would never have seen the light of day. Case and point: Xerox's mouse and desktop.

We've talked before. Give my explicit take on getting into the ERP space...blunt and raw.

I think your situation is ALL of our situation. We are ALL kickass eng but no connections, no non-tech ie sales/marketing, no industry specific insight and the lack of key to your success: inside connections.

Startups need VC's not for money but for the connections. VC helps the startups get not only in touch with people who makes decisions for the company but moreover have the ability to convince/convey/"pressure" them to at least give you a try. Another reason for VC's; make other startups use your product to launch theirs. Case and point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Andreessen He epitomizes that once you have that inside connection, you can make a 1+1 tool for a million dollars and the entire industry will jump on board and pay whatever it takes. It's amazing how people with no clue can quickly build up a company to add 1+1 and turn it into a billion dollar company and you can't even though yours for fraction of the price can do 1+2.

I've been in Silicon Valley and at various FAANG/M to now have a clue to how things work.

My observations:

1. Best products never gets greenlighted....never. Mind boggling.... but true. Decision makers are almost always a non-tech.

2. Company IT's are always looking for sweet deals, kickbacks, no brain implementation/integration and ungodly support

3. Company IT's 90% of work almost always comes from integrating various mismatched platforms

4. enduser's pain is almost never considered. decision process is almost always based on a single usecase for high level's myopic viewpoints.

All above reasons why internals in enterprises absolutely sucks. ABSOLUTELY. You would be blown over by how backwards antique sw is being used by the likes of Apple, Amazon, Cisco, Microsoft and most fortune 500 runs inside because I've worked for most of the top 10 techs. and the worst piece of crap sw: SAP. Every company has this painpoint because it/they integrate all of other barely working junk platforms. So enterprises are basically crippled by an idiot who built their initial foundation. Probably because they lacked the knowledge, took the lowest barrier to entry and big tech junk constantly in their faces and no limit to funds. This is where the big boys like SAP work their evil to get you onto their legacy platform which makes you stuck forever. Once on it, the changes you have to make to your internals are resource impossible. I remember a little while back when I went to HR in a top 10 tech. The sw a HR person was using launched a bunch of DOS window to do some execution. It was unreal.

This brings along another enterprise unicorn: Atlassian. I've been using it for years and there is a reason why they are able to create an eco around their sw.. mainly because their sw platform is so lacking. The most popular extension just to make confluence workable was a tiny little plugin a person was making millions from because confluence simply lacked some key fundamental func. So you have to wonder, how in the world did they get their foot in the door? I (prgm mgr) became a demigod of sorts after I was able to do "magical" basic func using their REST API.

Bottomline, if you're looking to get into enterprise and you have no connections, and no industry standing (your partners in crime and/or an industry leader in a specific field) you will never break in... never. This is why many startups are emphasizing by saying s/he worked at FAANG which for whatever reason makes them god in their field and should be taken seriously regardless of their position.

If you're trying to do cold calling, best to do is at tradeshows which IT people love going to. They get treated like royalties and get "kickbacks."

However now with the advent of social media, if you can make a splash with some specific viral video that spotlights your product. You could get noticed and get your foot in the door.

Another demo you can hit if you're B2B are SMB's. They usually lack the big boy's connections and are willing to take a risk in reducing cost, overhead, personnel and infra costs.

Finally, if you're B2C product, then your best and only bet is social media engagement with an influencer.

I'm sorry for you to think you'll get notice from enterprise procurement here in HN. Personally i don't think it will happen. I think most of us are either bored dev's, retired or bored non-influencers. Those people you so desperately want attention from, treats their work strictly 8-5 and do cocktail parties with visibility to sell themselves. Sorry, they are not scouring the web for best solutions. They are looking for best solutions for themselves which does not mean best for company. Think if you're trying to get T rump's attention, you have a choice: cheap fast food now with diet coke or showcase best in class enterprise sw that will save money, time and people's lives? Which do you think he will pay attention to?

However, having said that, you can make it into the fray by yes, focusing on niche. Case Study: Stripe. They focused on reducing painpoints for webdev's. Once they got traction with an army of webdev's. That got the VC's attention, VC's joined in giving Stripe connections to decision makers and rest is history. If you feel you got what people who build things need to reduce their cost/pain expeditiously. Then you need to be in that dev's viewpoint; Stackoverflow, Medium articles and all other dev landing zones; DZone etc.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, question was more rhetorical in nature and exhibiting my anxiety towards idea dissemination. I guess one of the reason why I never got further from capitulating from copycats who will do it faster, and better.

I suspect like most, your teams are overseas ie Romania/Spain etc. Lots good talent, focused so hinders my willingness to try something that isn't out there yet only to be overrun by talents who can crank it out in a day.

Like all indies, I do not have team/business currently to administrate/PR this to public mind's eye. Not to mention that in itself will be more time consuming than coding it.

Let me chew on this and see if there may be a small prj. How are you on pwa/vue? and unity?

Can you tell me more about your team? members, skillsets, knowledge expertise?

hum.. just tried loading your sites and it crashed Brave....never seen anything crash any of my browsers ;)

What is your stance on collaboration based on equity? Some I may pay others, thinking of equity instead. What are your thoughts?

i need a few built bc I don't have the bandwidth.

Only thing holding me back is app/idea stealth and competition. What would hold your group back from implementing same and deploy in countries I can't touch? Of course, inevitable if it's worth while, copycats everywhere. So my main concern is stealth and competition since easier for you to move on it.

What's the clause / non-compete agreement?

What's the ballpark $ a complete E2E from provided wireframe? I also provide the UX/UI/graphics etc. Let's say Instagram equal. as PWA/Vuejs w some sort of auth/db? Another MVP may be Unity3D again, provide all assets. Both to live on say.. GCE vm.

I personally don't think we have a clue as this article clearly states we've just begun to understand by not understanding.

I would be cautious since they are doing nothing but feeding you what they feel are "essential" gut bacterias.

the danger is, there has to be a balance. You can have an overgrowth that you may not be able to reverse.

Again, I think this article exemplifies what we don't yet know so, a company providing a ready made solution seems a little much?

The best thing you can do for your gut isn't yet practical which is to find a bio/genetic/ethnic compatible person and do an FMT and do the rebalancing this company is promising for real. yeah. a bit futuristic but have been done and proven to work if you need helping an aliment such as Crohn's.
RemingtonLak
·5 anni fa·discuss
I don't think we will ever get to understanding even 10%. I think the cause and effect of what happens in our mouth/throat/stomach/small/large intestines connection will ever ben understood. Unlike the advancements we've made in trying understand the brain which we've only begun.

From all that gather, the cause and effect like one bacteria's waste is another's feed to yet another etc.. I do know yes, we found certain vitamins are made in the gut including many hormones like why is 90% of Serotonin made in colon but bulk of it is used in the brain? It has been found that there are neurons in our gut thus the "2nd brain" Hypothesis.

Not going into specifics, I can tell you without a doubt my fasting has made a huge impact to my health although I'm not doing it long enough >5 days nor often enough. Further that by eating garbage high carb/sugar when back to "normal."

It's been speculated and I believe it's for real that if everyone fasts at least one full day a week and do IM 16:8 the rest. Most of the aliments people are currently dealing with will be almost gone.

I clearly feel going into ketosis after a full day of fasting.

I fast 3-5 days once a qtr and every week I fast Mondays.

If I had the money and motivation. I would start a startup that does the following: At your puberty, you bank/cryofreeze your blood and when you are the pinnacle of your gut/body health in your 20's cryofreeze your stool. Then in your 50-60's, reimplant your stool and your blood. We lose so much along the way, by the time we're in our later age, we need to reconstitute it to reinvigorate your gut and possibly reverse aliments. I truly believe this business model could work.

indeed by far seems like the best job scraper, 2nd be Dice? But I can tell without question. If you're looking for an interview. You need to find someone in the inside who can refer. A typical job could literally have hundreds if not thousands of resumes of course all scanned by machines. The only ones that gets any considering are always the inside referral. I've hired almost 90% from inside referrals, the outside even pre-screened takes days weeks even months to work through. For the hiring mgr, that's too much pain. Also the pressure from inside to hire the "referred" candidate is also another factor. So yeah, if you're trying to come in cold, your chances are slim to none. One way in if no directly referral is through LinkedIn's network of "connections.'

PS> However, now a days, if you're a dev and can show, exhibit, describe your work. In particular one you created, lead, and managed is to have articles/GitHub to showcase them. Depending on the problem and the solution you're showcasing. That could get you the interview if not the job outright since machines can't scan and quantify that so will need to be flagged for human review.

To the yjftsjthsd-h point about showing all that on phone. I haven't yet looked into your prj, but just my 2cents here. if not please make it zoomable. I cannot tell you how much it bothers me to have a phone with 4k display and having an app that shows 4k amount of information on it that I'm suppose to read that isn't zoomable.

I love the idea of a dashboard for the 50K view then zooming into any "red." or interesting parts.

Just my 2cent. My apology if it already is since its a web interface?

else your prj urges me to get into ML. I may in near future wanting to do localized CV of faces/objects in a picture archive.

thanks for this.

I'm finding our phones are our "main" computing device. Why don't we use it as such? Albeit too small to use as an input although via voice, it can be just as productive but display doesn't match the amount of data that needs to be visible to be productive (I being a dev, although same would go for any discipline I suspect it) I just started using this over a chromebook:

Portable Monitor w/ Keyboard

https://www.ebay.com/itm/313275076315?

Kool thing about this unit is 1. builtin battery to power it and phone

2. the screen is touch screen! so basically it's a 13" interface for your phone! make ur car a tesla! ;-)

3. can be used as an extended monitor to your chromebook/laptop.

You of course need a phone that has a USB 3.1 and desktop although there are apps that can mimic and give you that FULL desktop experiences such as Userland and Leena Launcher.

And finally some apps can't expand to full or resized windows.

nevertheless, $300, very very fun to have with you everywhere.

Why better than chromebook? ..honestly don't know. I suspect I could have worked on making it happen but doing it on/from your phone so far seems fun! and of course it's always connect to the web vs chromebook needs to be tethered.

A brain fart as I too am looking for sounding board to my ideas although not exactly putting them out there but here's one:

Problem Statement: Everyone needs someone. Everyone needs input, mentoring, direction, new ideas, concepts, discoveries else you feel dead inside. Googl promises contextual searching but they all feel like upsells, ulterior motive results and promotions.

IDEA/ExecSum: A.I. based cognitive search that answers to your posts, comments, emails, interests.

HOW: You give a match.com like cerebral notes of your mindset based on what you've written and browsed. then on a daily / weekly basis comes back with recommendation of forums that speaks your tongue and interest. :) Say a very intrusive script that reads your emails (ones in particular you sent to yourself), your docs on locally and cloud, your posts and comments on everywhere. Then let it psychoanalyze and come back with everything from books to posts to podcasts and maybe even real life happening to you locally.

Brain fart I'll never explore. ;)

2nd comment. What I like about HN vs rest.

1. HN posts feel curated, filtered, critical.

2. Regurgitating from my previous comment to OP: HN commenters are a cut above the rest. Redditers may have witty retorts but HN's commenters are very cerebral.

3. My time is precious. HN's "curated" posts and brilliantly observant comments makes my time reading it feel time spent was invaluable vs Reddit's mindless brainless doom scrolling for a single hidden diamond in the rough post/comment with exception to few subs.

I guess art is to the eye's of the beholder. I/we can't tell you if your time here is worth it, it's up to you to interpret that however, you coming here to "ask" that seems somewhat telling, don't you think?

On that vein, I found my wife of 10yrs on craigslist as she was inquiring on my laptop for sale. Everything seems to a degree serendipitous . You should give everything a try once...if not multiple times.

PS. Interesting fun movie on this note: Yes Man https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1068680/? tongue and cheek romcom, worth the life lesson(s) in it.

PPS> On what seems like a sad statement though mainly bc I'm feeling a bit melancholy lately. I wish I could befriend everyone here in HN.

Your post read my mind except #3, I got that nailed w/ a beauty. No complaints. As for #1/2, I think there is more to it than that. My myopic view of the posts/articles from various is as follows:

1. There are posters (regardless of platform) who want to garnish attention either to...

   a) get a job, since visibility is how you attract attention good or bad.

   b) Plato stating this the best for #2: “Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something.” ― Plato I personally fall under both categories depending on subject.

   c) Bored, depressed, immature commenting as the latter part of quote in #2

   d) Genuinely cares and has something to contribute, this now being the "wise men" of Plato's quote.

   e) Want/looking to be tribal. Genuinely lonely, wanting, needing to be a part of a collective.
2. Speaking of both Ask / Show HN, I feel most do genuinely want to know and/or what to show like your own and unlike most other platforms. Here on HN, 98% of the time, you will get sincere responses. Thus my love of HN. Unlike the narcissism in 60% of Reddit, 99.9% of 4chan and 99.99% of FB...most being just a cesspool of wasted bits.

Now of course speaking only for myself. Here is me: 1. I'm an implant from Midwest to silicon Valley. Been here >20yrs.

2. what I miss dearly are conversations with well read individuals. I love the people I work with, with most having superior intellect to me however, English not being their primary, more sophisticated conversation I cannot have. I love my friends who came from afar and enjoy talking to them but I do not get the "tribal" connection I seek of being more alike. I get this "conversation" here in HN and nowhere else.

3. HN posters and commenter are like none other outside of StackOverflow ;). What I love about HN is the makeup of individuals who sincerely have something wise to say. I like to feel I'm well read and bread (not genetic ;-) but when i read people's comment like on this post, I literally take something away from every single commenter. It's overwhelm and I sometimes swell up because it gives me the connection I currently lack due to Covid lock down. The overwhelmingly well thought out and thought through comments feeds my thirst for knowledge and soul. From what you seek, although i would still encourage for you to checkin HN for such support and topics, but goto somewhere more specialized to your needs like Indiehackers.com

Also look into this post and many others like it that seems to come up periodically as some having the courage to say they are lonely..https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26293703

PS> It's the worldwideweb with no barriers to entry including negative AI bots which I feel are being strategically inserted by foreign or internal agents. Sun Tzu said it best, "To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself." Somebody has literally taken this general's advice to task. It's unreal to think that someone can let a bot roam and disseminate seeds of self destruction to break a country down from within. www has become a very very scary place. Topic for a diff post ;-)

PPS> I'm guessing you're in your thirties, single, living in a metro, disheartened by the pandemic and frustrated in not being able to find a clear path to fame, fortune and independence. Although I am a bit older, join the club! :)

PPS> Just had an epiphany that we all need besides a soulmate, is an intellectual mates too? I feel that's what I'm searching for....
