"Little devs" in this context is still a company that probably has investors, investors that can push for the acquisition. Even if a small dev studio is self funded or has normal debt that they can realistically pay off, the money on the table for the owner is hard to resist. If the owner has qualms, the whole pitch of "we'll give you artistic independence and the funds to make what you want" will seal the deal.

The only people that can tell Microsoft to gargle their gonads are already rich as fuck or have a will of steel and principles uncommon with entrepreneurs.

Not to start a linguistic rabbit hole but the correct analogy would be "a certain language and social dialect tend to produce stories with a certain theme and dialog".

>Ridiculous and provably false.

If you prefer a counterexample, a couple of years ago I noticed that Apex Legends was a Source engine game without external info, and that Source version is heavily modified. Of course one can modify the provided defaults to a point that even the most no-life individual couldn't guess the engine.

I watched a cool video about the whole "engine grain" thing recently with more examples. https://youtu.be/SOwYqwsEdXc

Wouldn't the lack of medical expenditure win out against the loss of consumption from a pension?

Seems like it's true [0], the net migration has fallen since the year 2000. I imagine that the people commute from Poland to DE is also a factor.

(Spoilers for The Wire)

I buy the whole thing that some cultures give more weight to face-saving than others. I would classify my supposedly western country (Chile) as one that gives it more weight than, for example, Germany. Even then, this just sounds like a kneejerk "you cannot trust these dastardly orientals".

Face saving is a thing in the US, to the point that it's a common plot point prestige TV (e.g most of The Wire). It's an accepted fact in political campaign with spin doctors. The 30K in credit card debt to keep up appearances is also face culture. The hustle culture, etc.

You don't need to be racist, you just can be skeptic of the claims of an autocratic government.

As a inverse example: a (German) family member has lived fully immersed for 20+ years in my Spanish speaking country.

I doubt he could pass a C2 level test, there's simply a hard limit in language learning for most people without academic instruction. It's also pointless, he's had a long career in a professional field where clear communication is mission critical. Furthermore even if another foreigner with a shiny Spanish C2 certificate appeared they would fare worse, because they wouldn't know the local social minutia.

Aside from jobs in the Literature department or something, a C2 requirement is a "foreigners need not apply" sign.

Linking to the equivalent of "@groq is this true??" should be mocked.

Did they pay the toll? Or the worries of NSA weren't actually bullshit?

I mean, yes? I heard of these Chinese resellers like a week ago and put it on the TODO pile due to a lack of leads. Now I'm gonna go trough the list and see if there's any I find acceptable.

If enough Westerners start using the service someone will make a website more anglo-friendly.

Would you care if someone gave it to you and didn't like the meaning? If God almighty descended from the heavens and told you the purpose of existence was to eventually create his favorite Vtuber or hyperparasitic wasp, would you devote your life to it?

I didn't say Mr. Johnny was hallucinating, or that he's lying. Was finding the "Written by humans" humorous the most polite comment ever? No, but it is absurd to call it harassment. Specially considering it matched his energy.

His website is cool, and from what I could skim from the content I'm sure his clients are happy and find it worthwhile. I'm not being facetious. He said Claude saved him time, which is true. Regardless of that, I believe he wildly overestimated how much time it would've taken. A website that could be a Wordpress install with plugins isn't technically interesting. It does not validate what @halfmatthalfcat said.

LLMs are capable and impressive. I'm not doubting that, but we do this song and dance [0] each time of grandiose statements and subsequent disappointment. My wariness is not violence against you or anybody.

I specially resent being called a bully for not coaching my language in every possible way. I'm not the avatar of your every forum trauma.

I would argue that it just shows Karp understands that the US is transitioning to a hybrid regime.

I'm sorry that I think that "Our LLM is the missing element for a group to develop nukes or bioweapons" is marketing hogwash.

I'll guess we will see when or if the IPO happens. The more probable claim (Trump just wants money) will be proved if Amodei buys Truth Social or something and pulls a Tim Apple. My (not very probable) tinfoil hat theory is sadly unverifiable, but very funny. Anthropic bribed some Trump minion to ban Fable and lock in the honeymoon period until just before the IPO.

The secret ingredient is public and brazen bribery, and the one thing that Anthropic doesn't lack is cash.

>this is a cratering of the userbase inside and outside of the US.

Is it really? It was limited release anyway (like hypebeast merch!). Everything people are gonna talk about for a week is gonna be about how Fable was so cool that it got banned by the feds. If it's just the Trump admin being the Trump admin, Amodei is just gonna have to pay up as a racket / marketing expense. Or it is like I'm suspecting and this was pre-bribed and the ban is kabuki theater.

>And, if you were hoping for a Star Trek-like future, you just adjusted your timeline for the worse.

The funny thing is that solar and batteries advancements are actually this, not LLMs, but your framing kinda fits anyways.

Fable is very impressive but not exports restriction impressive. Very tinfoil hat on my part but doesn't this seem very false flag adjacent?

You bribe someone in the admin to restrict access after a couple of days of media blitz and user approval, locking in the honeymoon period that new model releases get (remember when GPT-4 was new?). The spooky factor gives it even more marketing, and just before the IPO the Trump admin frees Mythos and they make nice after the DoD debacle.

> target for all manner of negativity ranging from snark to harassment to malicious action

We get get the Borg-esque "resistance is futile" spiel, someone asks for examples. One guy (kinda smugly tbh) points us to his (neat) online course website, claiming that it took him 1 month to rebuild with Claude, ergo GP is right and the non-AI dev is destined to extinction. As WooCommerce didn't end all web development before, he gets some good-natured ribbing.

I find the AI booster dynamic of "you are fool and will get replaced" to "I'm a smoll defenseless bean" kinda puzzling.

I'm looking at something fairly standard that can be made with a SSG. The "Written by humans" footer gave a good chuckle tho.

Didn't you know? Lab work being a skill is fake news. Jimmy Schoolshooter can make a couple of kilos of Anthrax in an afternoon with our cool genie.

Remember to buy the IPO!
