My institution's been included in studies primarily for patient access. If we're not included, then good luck getting enough patients, and even then it can take several years to enroll enough patients. Replicating such a trial would be near impossible.

It's generally permitted to share de-identified patient data. As long as you're not sharing patients names, medical record numbers, birthdays, and a couple of other fields, you should be fine.

Most theories I've seen suggest that it was created by Simone's mom. Whenever Simone mentions her mom, Mrs. Davis responds with "Redirecting..." suggesting that the algorithm has a special relationship with her.

The book had 2 sequels, which show that Colossus was working to keep humanity safe. (It would've really helped if Colossus had told us what it was protecting us from, but even computers can make mistakes.)

There are an awful lot of expensive apps with web front ends that only worked with IE6 for years.

It's possible to stop a trial because the new drug is much more effective than the old drug. It's also possible to stop a trial because the new drug's significantly worse than the old. We've done both. Also, I hope that no one ever tells you that you have to do a drug schema change because "too many kids are dying."

Jeph Jacques of Questionable Content fame had his account suspended for the same thing. https://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=4911

Tibco does/did middleware. When I used it 20 odd years ago, it provided a robust messaging system for apps across the enterprise. We used it to communicate between a half dozen systems where I worked as well as the middleware for the n-tier app I worked on, and it was pretty easy to use.

There are plenty of parts of the US with really poor cell coverage. Even if everything's working perfectly, there's no guarantee that your car can update. Having a car die because it couldn't phone home is both a lawsuit waiting to happen and a potential PR nightmare.

That's true to the comics. If anything, they toned down the hair. His sister tells him "You are utterly the stupidest, most self-centered, appallingest excuse for an anthropomorphic personification in this or any other plane!"

I found many of the changes to be an improvement. The early comics really hooked into the DC mythos, and while that was cool as a comics nerd to see how all that fit together, it would be unwieldy in a standalone series. I particularly like the changes they made for Dee/Dr. Destiny.

20-odd years ago, my team solved some performance issues in our desktop app by splitting a couple of tasks into their own threads on a computer with a single CPU. Being able to write threaded code is really useful.

We had 21" CRTs back in the 90s for full page displays. I remember someone at a client injuring their back moving one. One of my former coworkers broke a desk by putting a CRT on it. I had a 27" TV that I could barely lift. Now I can easily move 55" TVs. I haven't gotten stronger in the past 30 years.

I have a Dell Latitude laptop. It absolutely doesn't have enough video ports for the monitors on my desk. And while it's got enough ports for my USB peripherals (barely), it's certainly a lot more convenient to connect one cable than to connect 5-6, when I bring it back from using it as a laptop.

I remember reading about a team (I think in Japan) which had a "brash foreigner." If someone noticed something, they'd mention it to the foreigner, who would bring it up with higher ups. Everybody won. Problems got fixed, the foreigner was safe because they "didn't know better," and their coworkers felt safe.

Citrix does desktop virtualization. Back when I was involved with using their stuff (20 years ago), it was a lot faster for global users to connect to our Citrix server to run client/server apps than to run them over the WAN. Tibco does/did middleware for n-tier applications. Back when I used it (again 20 years ago) it worked, and was relatively painless.
