That actually is an approach. Some teachers make you read the lesson before class, others give you homework on the lesson before lecturing it, and some even quiz you on it on top of that before allowing you to ask questions. I personal feel that trying to learn the material before class helped me learn the material better than coming into class blind.
There is only one correct way to calculate 5/2+3. The order is PEMDAS[0]. You divide before adding. Maybe you are thinking that 5/(2+3) is the same as 5/2+3, which is not the case. Improper math syntax doesn’t mean there are two potential answers, but rather that the person that wrote it did so improperly.
I don’t own the role you listed. I’m only a manager, not a recruiter, so can’t help you with other opportunities. Feel free to apply to my role, the one you listed, or any other role and you should get connected to the right people for it!
2 Software Engineering roles | Full Time | Hybrid (1 day) or Remote | El Segundo or anywhere in USA | US Only (Clearance)
I have 2 open roles on my engineering team supporting the Space Force as a contractor at ManTech. One is for a cloud/infrastructure/data engineer to manage our cloud enclave(s) and one is for a sysadmin in tools like Jira/Confluence/Foundry. Our team (~20) is 75% distributed across USA fully remote and 25% in the office one day a week. Both roles require 7+ years experience, and a Secret or Top Secret SCI security clearance (not required to start). $110K-$185K depending on experience and location.
I’m trying to fix the job posting to correctly reflect some of the info above, so if you see a discrepancy, go with this post.
There should be an option in FSD to have it not pass on the right and to change what speed difference it will wait to pass for (for example only pass when the car in front is [5] mph slower than what I want to go). These are separate options to look into than chill mode, and could also fall short to Comma, but thought I’d share in case you didn’t know they were there.
Fun game! I thought you programmed it wrong till I realized in your version of liars dice 1s are wild. Also never played the way of guessing the total number of dots, and we always have loser go first on the next round. Thanks for sharing!
Any concern here of the nasal spray crossing the blood brain barrier in a way that the EpiPen doesn’t? I found a study from 2007 with semi-mixed results: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17472409/
2024 Q1: “we recorded one crash for every 7.63 million miles driven in which drivers were using Autopilot technology. For drivers who were not using Autopilot technology, we recorded one crash for every 955,000 miles driven. By comparison, the most recent data available from NHTSA and FHWA (from 2022) shows that in the United States, there was an automobile crash approximately every 670,000 miles.” [0]
And for further info that includes a comparison to Waymo see [1].
Doesn’t seem right to call something that is 10x safer “terrible”, but maybe you have different metrics you are looking at.
I think urban dictionary did a pretty good job on this one:
“Woke
When this term became popularized, initially the meaning of this term was when an individual become more aware of the social injustice. Or basically, any current affairs related like biased, discrimination, or double-standards.
However, as time passed by, people started using this term recklessly, assigning this term to themselves or someone they know to boost their confidence and reassure them that they have the moral high grounds and are fighting for the better world. And sometimes even using it as a way to protect themselves from other people's opinion, by considering the 'outsider' as non-woke. While people that are in line with their belief as woke. Meaning that those 'outsiders' have been brainwash by the society and couldn't see the truth. Thus, filtering everything that the 'outsider' gives regardless whether it is rationale or not.
And as of now, the original meaning is slowly fading and instead, is used more often to term someone as hypocritical and think they are the 'enlightened' despite the fact that they are extremely close-minded and are unable to accept other people's criticism or different perspective. Especially considering the existence of echo chamber(media) that helped them to find other like-minded individuals, thus, further solidifying their 'progressive' opinion.”
I think rather than calling it post structuralism or hyper reality, we can just look at goodharts law[0] for the general understanding that metrics cease to be useful when they become the thing that leadership looks at. Like Spooky23 and others are saying in other comments, once you learn that it’s all a game you can use it to your advantage.
Managing a software engineering team is obviously different than an IC, but both have the same potential for feelings of endorphin rushes and mindless/meaningless work. Manager roles may more often have less defined goals than IC, but in either role I’ve always made up my own goals anyways. I think at the core the difference we are talking about is those that function best with little oversight/direction vs those that function best with a predetermined set of steps.
As an IC I was told “go make a thing that does this”, and as a manager I was told “lead a team that makes a thing that does this”, and that’s about it. I thrive in this environment.
I got the same endorphin rush as an IC when I demoed my MVP as I did as a manager when I pushed to get a high performer on my team a raise[0].
As a manager you make your own goals more often than not, but if you do it right it’s similar to how the blog post talks about beating a PR in swimming. My manager PRs are focused on 1) people’s growth, 2) team building, 3) performance improvements, 4) people’s fulfillment in work[1].
Outside of that I also have the metrics I send up the chain, which sometimes hit over longer periods as mentioned, but those aren’t where I get my enjoyment from work.
I think good manager should be focusing a good amount of their time on growing every individual in their team, as well as the overall team with it. Maybe the problem is that this isn’t ever actual taught to new managers in any impactful way. Maybe the problem is that management takes a completely different skill set, but both can be equally as enjoyable.
[0] the best part was after I told her and as she was walking back to her desk she said “I can’t wait to tell my husband I make more than him now”.
[1] as a manager, team member fulfillment sometimes means hyping up something that wasn’t actually that important, or having them brief things to leadership they wouldn’t normally because it would mean something to them, or giving everyone a chance to succeed, etc.. knowing what makes someone happy and making a point to reward them for hard work is the point.
Long time listener, first time caller (finally made a HN account)..
Anyways, can someone please explain how positive/negative plays a factor here? Rh +/- is mentioned once in the article but not discussed as far as being a donor. I was always told O- is the universal red cell donor [1]. Can anyone help explain is this enzyme fixes the +/- component in addition to the ABO component? Thanks!
