Because the style is irritating, and as usual: if the author can't be bothered to write it, I can't be bothered to read it.

> Three names, one thing. That’s why they blur together.

Stopped reading here. This is an AI article.

weird, I'm running GNOME on my laptop right now and I checked and it's using 275mb of ram. I would not call that particularly bloated.

> last time I looked at the schematics for one of those

When was the last time they looked at the schematics for one of the Apple machines? Oh, wait.

Or they could just make their schematics available and save 99% of the reverse engineering the Asahi team has to do.

1000s of hours of work for what is just sitting in a drawer in Cupertino. But they won’t.

How is this an issue? Xsnow is a novelty. You have to make two decisions: the first to still be using Xorg at all, the second to install the application itself which is essentially a gag screensaver.

The idea that some govt employee would get fired for this is extremely far fetched.

Another era, another Arch based distribution.

This one seems particularly attractive to Windows refugees especially gamers. The default desktop looks very much like Windows: even the wallpaper is one of those blue gradient 3d wave shapes.

I tried it in a VM and I don't think I can deal with the jank. The default install comes with 3 different GUIs for installing software, all of them confusing and inconsistent. Apps with context menus that go 5 levels deep everywhere, confusing layouts, sometimes icons, sometimes not. I guess if you are coming from Windows this is the status quo so that's fine.

Not for me but I'm glad this new wave of Linux users are finding success with it.

A lot of the recent npm attacks have been exfiltration from dev machines, which would just as likely from dev dependencies.

Time to start banning those that submit fake or superficial reports. Maybe with enough bans these people will start actually reading their own vulnerabilities.

I thought this was an ad bugging out. I use an adblocker. Very confusing.

I really wanted to read this, it seems like a really interested subject. I can even forgive the AI generated images. But after a few paragraphs it became clear this was either fed through an LLM or worse.

Please, if you write a technical blog, or anything really: Stop. Stop letting the AI write for you. Nobody wants to read this.

Phone hardware is a hellscape it doesn’t surprise me at all that they need to keep the number of supported devices small in order to deliver a decent product.

Good point however netcat wasn’t available either.

If you are still using ISDN you could maintain a fork.

This is one of the main examples of drivers that were removed.

Still working on my native navidrome/jellyfin client for Linux. Uses Rust and GTK.

Also built out a .fits parser that uses rayon to decompress in parallel making it about 5x faster than cfitsio.

More free PR for anthropic. “Our models are so powerful the govt shut them down”. Insert image of Dario looking like his dog just died.

So tired of the nonsense.

From what I understand gstreamer is more about building complex pipelines and plugins, ffmpeg is better at playing some obscure 20 year old video format extremely efficiently so you can watch it compiled for a potato.

Different cases really I think both are good.

The agents.md says “here’s the git source code” https://github.com/gitbutlerapp/grit/blob/main/AGENTS.md#sou...

This isn’t even a question of training data, thy fed the full git source code directly to the llm.

And just like that, it was forked by Microsoft a few days ago. Handed to them on a silver platter.
