I for one would love to see a startup called say, "Trauma Team International" or "Docwagon"...

When tech companies understand presbyopia is a thing then I will believe accessibility is given more than a token gesture.

I'm not holding my breath. I plan on eye surgery.

Presbyopia: https://www.aoa.org/healthy-eyes/eye-health-for-life/adult-v...

Affected world population: "Whereas the presbyopic population is expected to increase from approximately 2.1 billion people currently2 to more than 4 billion people in 2050 (approximately 40% of the world’s population)3"

> you just have to watch the HDD light or listen to the hardware to confirm.

When I hit occasional delays - like opening a Windows Start menu or File Explorer - I still find myself straining my ears to hear that, despite no mechanical drives in use...

Now it's all calls to the internet.

With advances in drones but issues with communications I thought it was obvious that having a drone-area-of-denial would be a thing.

I mean, if minefields are okay with the intention to kill anything that walks in the area, why not drones?

Similar to you, I don't see the attraction of these sims.

I have a theory it is a mindfulness thing like many hobbies.

Think knitting or crochet or even building and running a model train set in the garage. These things aren't terribly hard once you learn the basics but you have to pay attention to various details over time and it allows you to tune out from the rest of the world when you want to.

But I really don't know.

Rather than a single application, is it possible to run a VM and have multiple remote access sharing one login session?

I get that great pains have been made to make sure that doesn't happen by default. But if you really want to co-op on something, why not at the session level on a dedicated VM/login pair?

You are correct that we really don't know how we'd act unless we were in that situation. And like you, I hope I'd be vaguely sensible.

Two things, stand out to me though.

1. how you frame it might help with how you spend it. Which is to say that when shopping for a mansion "I've got 1.2 billion" likely leads to a different outcome than "I have 30k per day. I'll have to save up for it."

2. once chasing money is not a major thing in your life, what do you do for meaning?

Now that's a spurious "Won't somebody think of the children!" cry right there...

In a well implemented system that accounted for every edge case, sure. The systems are not there yet.

I know this is a TV show reference and a point about investment strategy but...

If I had 1.2 billion dollars I wouldn't care what investment strategy I had. I've got enough to spend $30k a day for 100 years. At any age, that'll do.

Instead of a class action after the fact, what if we tried prevention... say, some form of regulation?

> This is just pedantry, and incorrect pedantry at that. BUY does not always mean you gain ownership. You can BUY a license or a haircut and you don't own anything.

At the end of the day words have to mean something. It is not pedantry to simply discuss what a word or phrase means. There are false advertising laws for a reason.

To that end, I would argue you've never bought a haircut, you've paid for a service.

The issue at hand here is exactly that the word "buy" is used when discussing the appropriation of a licence for content that in practical terms, is still controlled by someone else.

Maybe there are technical reasons for this to be the case, but then maybe the word "buy" should not be used in this instance.

This seems less a demonstration of competence than of accessibility.

Often we only get 10-15 minutes with the one health professional that makes a determination and sets the path of your life for some time.

As opposed to being able to spend hours with an LLM that in many ways feels more sympathetic and helpful - even though it's competence is in question.

So here we are:

1. with doctors processing patients every 10 minutes like a machine.

2. and machine's processing, for a patient, at any hour like a human.

Well yes. But similar to the Apple TSMC relationship, could Apple step in with large orders to established RAM makers such that the RAM makers can invest with stability?

The issue is who is going to pay for access?

The model has to be sold for cheaper than the value it adds.

Or your customers will bleed out financially.

EDIT: rethought entire premise.

Sadly a lot of vote-conversations have boiled down to:

"Well, I picked the one I hated most and put that at the bottom of the list. Then worked up from there."
