I honestly think insomnia is 75% of the time just caffeine or some other chemical influence, and the other 25% of instances being psychological state in the form of obsession/anxiety/excitement.
Truthfully, though, and this grants observers a window into more deeply rooted social issues, it wouldn't be insomnia if we weren't forced to wake up according to any schedule but our own. If everyone could sleep whenever they wanted, and wake whenever they wanted, we wouldn't even have a word for insomnia. The manufactured "problem" disappears.
So, if you suffer from insomnia, consider that the problem isn't you. Maybe it's just that everyone else needs to disappear.
