I updated the article to clarify this a little.

I mean, $100k is a lot of money. Why not go to a specialized dating agency when that much money is on the table? Is that more irrational? Did I miss something?

"The market" is just a set of order books. I don't find it weird that technical analysis work some times in some markets.

Fully systematic traders exist and make money. Efficient Markets Theory says they shouldn't, but they do anyway. EMH is probably written under stricter/ideal conditions though.

If one wants to take a systematic/technical analysis approach though, I would look at the entire universe of stocks, whereas use a fundamental approach in individual stocks.

But yeah. I'm just an amature. What do I know.

But why do I need to account for the borrowing costs in the case where there is no borrowing involved?

Because I always discount with the rate I can borrow money at, right?

It vaguely seems like there is some opportunity cost argument to be made here...? Maybe?

When economists say "_net present value_ of future returns", are they exclusively wanting to discount the inflation effects? Or is there anything else?

Do you believe ADHD is overdiagnosed?
andersentobias

I don't think type 1 diabetes meds are considered overprescribed _anywhere_. ADHD meds definitely are. Even reputable doctors say they are overprescribed.

How large % of the ADHD population could be fixed environmentally, e.g. by just going to the damn gym? How much can be attributed to our modern lifestyles?

ADHD exists, but to say that there's something wrong with "the system" just because 100% of people in society don't take it as a serious diagnosis is a big stretch.

Another big stretch is comparing ADHD with type 1 diabetes. Come on...

Interesting. Is this really true, that every person prefers at most one of these?

Also a quotation link would be appreciated.

I understand "Lisp-style" as building (stateless) mini-APIs early and everywhere.

Isn't this very data-centric in nature?

> The Ukraine cyber police revealed that the stolen data were also bought by Russian citizens who paid using currencies prohibited in the Ukrainian territory.

What currencies are referred to here?

I think one needs to be clear about what type of content one is learning. Is it rote memorization like anatomy? Or is it more conceptual like system design?

It seems to me that you want to apply memorization techniques, or even high school paper writing techniques, to material highly conceptual in nature...

I don't think that's appropriate.

> My fantasy solution is everyone needs to go get a meat consumption license by going to a farm and killing an animal with a knife in their hands every, say, 10 years.

I have heard this repeated from so many vegans / animal activists at this point, including my own sister. Where did you get it from? Who is the original author? I am seriously asking.

An argument involving only my individual health (I am into fitness stuff) plus effect on the environment - repeated enough times - would sway me.

To be completely honest: I do not appreciate being told that I am an immoral human being for X (X = eating meat).

Been told that too many times already during my lifetime. It is a cultural constant. That formula is just too tiresome to hear yet again at this point.

US looks rather involved in the 2022 Ukraine-Russia war from my peasant POV.

Russia is not fighting the US military, but they are fighting US military vehicles etc

I do not own any crypto myself. The grown-up opinion is of course to view all crypto ""investments"" with extreme skepticism, which is an absolutely sane and correct position.

With that said, I like the idea of cryptocurrencies simply because they are punk as f*ck, and I'd like whatever leadership in charge to know that they do not have absolute power to run anyone else's life.

Apart from magic internet money, I cannot figure out any other way in which to "make myself heard".

With every indirection the gov't adds through decision taken by ombudsman/committee, the more power asymmetry is added which just fuels my sense of a system driven by amoral technocrats.

I think a big part of my personal development is not attaching my identity or self-worth to existing or established hierarchies. That's just status-seeking.

Like, if you studied math or CS, or studied to become a MD... Maybe you're prone to take yourself to seriously because of it. There is and will always be a feedback loop in society because we are all humans and always seeking attachment (in the psychological sense) to other humans.

I have self-worth because I do not try to justify it relative to something I do not control, like a Ivy Leage graduating class, FAANG, or whatever, but instead of accepting myself as I am.

Thoughts?

You don't need to involve a P vs NP discussion at all if you want to have a practical discussion to begin with. Big-Oh is sufficient?
