* Logseq exists to increase the knowledge output of humanity.
We're building a better environment for learning and collaboration. We're currently building a neuron inspired knowledge base/personal knowledge assistant that captures, synthesizes, searches, and creates knowledge as fast as you think–a digital extension of your brain. We don't think in pages and folders, but today's tools do. It's slowing us down. Logseq gets you to answers and smarter decisions faster.
* A Leader in the Tools for Thought space
We're a leader in the Tools for Thought space (with a unique focus on privacy and data ownership)––delivering on the pioneering work of Douglas Englebart, Alan Kay, Bret Victor, Vannevar Bush, and more. We're continuing the mission of augmenting human intellect and collective intelligence with computers, discovering novel UI + HCI and superpowers to do so :) More on our mission here: https://adventurous-ragdoll-1e0.notion.site/Who-is-Logseq-2c...
* Ownership and Autonomy
As Logseq's first designer, you will immediately have substantial ownership of the feel and functionality of the product. We're building a new way to think, which requires considerable tradeoff consideration and thoughtful user driven design. You will own our first design systems, early design processes, foundational product decisions and more. We're aiming to build a new knowledge tool for billions of people to change the world: empathy, systems thinking, intense level of polish are prerequisite.

ABOUT:
Logseq exists to increase the knowledge output of humanity.
We're currently building a neuron inspired knowledge base/personal knowledge assistant that captures, synthesizes, searches, and creates knowledge as fast as you think–a digital extension of your brain. We don't think in pages and folders, but today's tools do. It's slowing us down. Today, it's basically a private, open source, local first version of Roam Research. Feel free to shoot something over to [email protected] if interested or with any questions!
Interesting point, I do really enjoy the spatial aspect of graphs being incorporated into many knowledge tools now. I guess the valuable insight is that if 1D is bad and unwieldy, what’s a good alternative? Like a bulletin board?
Right! On one hand going deeper and back out of a though feels so much more natural, just like our brain branches off and returns back. But we are so used to paragraph based text due to its history and it feels more familiar. I like how in Notion you can indent and deindent normal paragraphs but that still doesn’t feel totally fluid, I’m not sure what it is. Maybe different modes or views for each is closer to the ideal?
We’re actually building the desktop app and local storage is almost done for the web app over at https://logseq.com ! We’re using the new Filesystem API so look forward to many of these tools supporting local storage in the future!
Super excited to share this with HN! We're building a privacy centric networked knowledge base for knowledge management and sharing, where you own your data! Come say hi in our discord!
You should check out logseq.com! Has all the features you’ve mentioned (KaTeX, beautiful and functional graph). I’ve been using it for hours each day and it’s been amazing, ze mind is so free! Their extensions platform is coming this month though, so it’s not quite out yet.
Athens is pretty far behind most alternatives. I use logseq.com and it is miles ahead of Athens and even edges out Roam in a lot of aspects. i.e. it’s based in md and org-mode and all data is stored locally and synced with GitHub. The team is great and super responsive (minutes from message to new deploy) and are open sourcing after beta. They took all the best features of all the trendy note taking apps and put it into one beautiful piece of clojure web app. Super recommend!
Maybe he had other reasons to post? Maybe it attracts people toward him that think similarly? Maybe it’s to showcase his thought process on how he likes to maximize his contributions or his thought processes in general? Maybe it’s to make his customers even more happy that the money went to a good cause? Maybe it’s to popularize his way of thinking about money and gratitude? Solely feeling the need to broadcast to the Internet is a tough assumption to pin on Derek. Assuming other people’s motives may say more about the one assuming.
This is an interesting thought. However, the risk of spread to the communities that house said colleges is greatly increased. I got to school in Boston and can only imagine the spread via off campus activities, public transport, and use of community spaces. We could be sparing our parents and endangering a whole other population. But college students could be far enough removed from their communities for this to make sense, don’t know of anything to back that up though.
