Sounds like you have a great use case. I can see how it would have been useful for me as well back when I was at university. Unfortunately, I rarely do any writing on paper any more, although I probably should.

iPad is a product I want to love, but still never find a reason to use.

They need to change their name so bad. Sounds like a Russian scam site.

Shameless plug here, but, for different reasons, I have to have bluetooth disabled on my iPhone at work, so I can't use AirDrop. Instead, I'm using WireDrop to transfer files via USB. I made the app only for this specific purpose.

I don't know exactly what Paul was referring to when he wrote his tweet, but my own interpretation of the problem is that the EU has basically transferred the responsibility entirely over to the end user, which is a responsibility that we know people are not capable of handling.

Sure, you can say that websites have the option of "Just don't track", but realistically we know that that will never happen. Particularly since a lot of websites are actually tracking the user for the purpose of making the experience better (such as remembering settings, recent search terms, etc...), rather than tracking for the purpose of selling data to advertisers. But, from the user's point of view, they won't know what they have agreed to anyways. So essentially we get to a scenario where 99% of the websites have annoying cookie banners, when we already know that 99% of users won't read the terms anyways...

If the EU was good at regulating things, they would come up with a solution which puts the responsibility primarily on the website. One example of this could be if EU defines like ~5 different "data ratings", with pre-defined conditions of what sort of data was allowed to be tracked for each rating. Then the websites are responsible for choosing the rating that corresponds to their level of data gathering, and if they report it incorrectly, the EU could fine them.

The result of this is that when a user visits a website, you can quickly see a "badge" in the browser which lets you know what sort of tracking this page has (thus the user learn what each rating means, and get a better understanding of what they agree to). This is very similar to what Apple already does in the App Store in the "Data Linked To You" section for each app.

For me, the mentioned balance issue is only happens on Apples AirPods. With wired audio devices, or third party bluetooth, I never noticed this.

First sentence of the article: "We live in the age of the short attention span"

Followed by "TO READ THIS STORY, SIGN IN OR START A FREE TRIAL."

No, thank you!

I'm not convinced this article says what the title suggests, but it's very hard to judge. It talks about "Emissions Intensity" and states:

> "India's rate of emissions intensity - the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions emitted for every unit increase of gross domestic product (GDP) - fell by 33% from 2005 to 2019"

Sounds to me that this is a case of "decrease of the increase", rather than overall reduction. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you for this! Really interesting. I'm having a look at it now.

Although my initial thought was that it would be great if there was a way to watch the entire day (for one news station) in one clip, rather than have to click on multiple 30 seconds videos.

Thank you for sharing your story! It is always interesting to hear different perspectives from these events.

Regarding your VCR tapes. I understand it may be difficult for you to watch, but I encourage you to get them digitalized soon, while you still can. Perhaps even upload them in full length online somewhere for other people to look at.

"Spotify is raising the price of its single-account premium plan for the first time since 2011"

Surely this can't be true, I can even remember I had my Spotify Premium plan go from 99SEK to 119SEK about two years ago.

I live nearby and worried something bad had happened when I heard all the ambulance helicopters.

Was really sad to hear about the dead and injured afterwards :(

Why do people keep posting links to this on HN? Not a complaint, just curious.

I still maintain apps in Objective-C, but I don't view them as technical debt. I find it mostly fun to maintain the knowledge.

One day the apps (products) may themselves become technical debt, but that is not the fault of the language they were written in.

Yes, I don't doubt that there are more affordable products which offer the same, or (probably) better, quality, for a better price.

Nevertheless, some people just prefer to use products that spark their creativity, however irrational it may be. This can easily turn into a never ending discussion :P

As of late, their industrial design has been just beautiful. You want to have it, even if you have no use for it.

People will complain about the price, as per usual, but keep in mind that this is a small company making low volume products for professionals.

With that said, I certainly won't be buying one :)

I mean, nobody even understand what the Metaverse is... Is it a product? Is it a concept? Who owns it? What is Facebook's (Meta's) involvement? How does it relate to a VR headset? Is there only one metaverse, or multiple? etc...

I mean, I'm a tech person and even I don't pay enough attention to it to answer these questions. But, whether it is dead or not, time will tell.

Imo, seems like a bad thing to bet your legacy on. Haven't most people gotten over the VR headset hype by now? Kind of like 3D TV's from a decade ago. It also feels like such an anti-social technology. + the fact that a certain % of the population just get motion sickness from it.

But who knows, if anyone can succeed with it, Apple probably can!
