Rowzero seems incredible, but this and PySheets target the wrong users. You are targeting data scientist while I would target finance people to get traction. So let me tell why I would use it as a Data Scientist but not as a finance guy: 1) It runs on the cloud, I would go with something that runs locally (or on premise) since there are sensible data there (with rust as a backend should be fine, python you need to ship a set of libraries using docker) or should be integrated into GCP/AWS/Azure. 2) You need to create a PowerPoint/Word alternative as well where you can just copy/paste stuff or you need to make the copy/paste in PowerPoint/Word easy 3) Push strong on big data and DB connection, right now those are the bottlenecks, also create some API in python for popular services in finance (Bloomberg, Factset, CapitalIQ, ...) so that they are available out of the box with a subscription 4) Do something for the text part, like getting embeddings for similarity, fuzzy match in python plus probably the interface can be different in analyzing text (highlights in green of keywords, search in text and so on), people in finance often work also with PDF and having all in a platform is nice instead of having two windows as of today

I am very happy for you, egoistically I want Polars to become a the best tool it can. On the other hand it is not going to be easy to build a company around it, I think you need a different/better business model compared to Databricks/Spark.

I write mostly about AI and how to train deep learning models.

Can I ask you what kind of economic data do you use? I use ECFC forecasts but for others data, labor market for example, I would go in the site that publish it, so BLS for US, ONS for UK, Eurostat for EU, or FRED that is a good aggregator of US data

Cryptography and security, on a professional level. But I would say just take a sabbatical, travel and enjoy life without a computer. P.s. Italy has good food :)

Reading this and other similar posts, I feel so lucky to have found a 1) great boss that really knows his stuff thanks to the fact that he started working on this before it was cool, 2) a great company that believes that data will be the future and 3) a good team that follows me without too many frictions.

This, blockchain is crypto and crypto is blockchain. It is a clever way to bypass a central authority and trust the crowd.

It is not easy to hire a business leader in the AI sector that knows something about AI. And here is not even the "easy" AI, we are talking about autonomous driving that is like the edge of innovation in AI using computer vision and reinforcement learning. It is hard to find technical people that knows RL, it is much easier for the funder to get better in the business side.

The field is new yes but before covid the recent graduate with even 1 year of experience were so good compared to now. The real problem is that with remote work you can't really learn something if you're a fresh graduate. I had my worst interns during the last two years, and I don't think that they were stupid. The real problem is that they can't really learn in remote when I don't have the time to teach them. When we were in the office they would jsut follow in every meeting, pair coding and so on. I love remote work, for me it's a bless, I exploit wvery single minute of my day working, but for interns and juniors is a nightmare they are not going to learn anything from me or from others.

Same experience hiring Junior Data Scientist, it's a shitshow out there. The level is so low that I had to hire a "old school" statistician with a senior position

Change company, felt this way three times already and I started to learn again after changing job for three times. Now I am in like a sort of bridge between code and business so it's more challenging and I actually enjoy to step down, code and solve things that other are not able to ;)
