The NYT article reminds me of that terrible Bloomberg article on Supermicro hardware being backdoored. Nice to see that Jetbrains have a response out quickly :)

You could have 99% of the Bitcoin hashrate and start mining blocks that give you double the reward, but every other miner and node on the network would just ignore you because you aren't following the rules.
If you get banned from the Steam community for spamming/harassing/being awful your game library is still there. Even if you get banned for cheating in a game, you only lose access to that game and not the rest of your library.
