Noah's Ark may well be derived from the flood story in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In both stories the God(s) assert that the flood is a one-time event and promise to never repeat it. Many of the stories are probably amalgamations of different myths and legends of the near east.

So don't use coding agents? No one is forcing you, are they?

In practical terms, the US is more fascist and more authoritarian than most countries. There must be thousands of soldiers who know the war is illegal and that they are committing war crimes. Yet they persist because, the president said so. Thus, the strange presumption that other countries worship their leader in the same way. Thus, the strange presumption that by just replacing the leader they can profoundly transform any country.

I don't know of any English word counting algorithm or MoS that does not count "12" as a word, do you?

"Does it have to be 1,000 words?

Yes. That’s what a picture is worth, after all. Your entry must be exactly 1,000 words, not including the title (if you choose to write one)."

I use the bot for lookups: "numpy, one hot, eye", "python, partition sequence, which lib?", "bash, safe test unset variable for equality".

Correct. The thesis is worth 10 weeks of full-time work by someone on their third study year.

NP contains P. You're thinking of NP-hard problems.

That's just a cop-out. If there was no index the egg producers could easily have found other ways to collude to keep prices high. They do the same thing in Europe and there is no egg index to blame.

What's the alternative? Seems like any community/discussion site always goes down the same fate.

Very clear that was going on in other subreddits too. E.g., moderators in r/worldnews conspiring to promote certain views while suppressing others.

This is one of the Price Runner sites: https://www.pricerunner.com/ And this is Google Shopping: https://www.google.com/search?q=laptops&sca_esv=a6fae943e924...

Google gave its own price comparison service favorable treatment in search results, thereby abusing their dominance in the search market:

"Google has systematically given prominent placement to its own comparison shopping service: when a consumer enters a query into the Google search engine in relation to which Google's comparison shopping service wants to show results, these are displayed at or near the top of the search results.

Google has demoted rival comparison shopping services in its search results: rival comparison shopping services appear in Google's search results on the basis of Google's generic search algorithms. Google has included a number of criteria in these algorithms, as a result of which rival comparison shopping services are demoted. Evidence shows that even the most highly ranked rival service appears on average only on page four of Google's search results, and others appear even further down. Google's own comparison shopping service is not subject to Google's generic search algorithms, including such demotions.

As a result, Google's comparison shopping service is much more visible to consumers in Google's search results, whilst rival comparison shopping services are much less visible."

It is similar to Microsoft's anti-competitive business practices of the 1990's. There is no legal uncertainty at all -- Google must have know that its conduct was illegal and deserve to pay hundreds of billions in punitive damages.

Not everyone who speaks Russian is a Russian or lives in Russia. It's like show a Palestine flag specifically to users with a Jewish calendar.

If I understand the research correctly, they have created viral code which runs the moral equivalent of

    update brain set syn_strength ×= 1.1
    where src_region=med_prefront_ctx and dst_region=dorsal_raphae
in the brains of mice without affecting any surrounding tissue. Pretty impressive. Or actually, since the update remained dormant until activated, more like a trigger: create trigger fix_brain update brain ... when brain_juice_z > 0.8

Man, there is exactly zero information on your site about how your benchmarks work. Why should one trust your numbers when there is no way to verify them?

It's only interesting after you've removed all signs of nuance and dumbed the argument down to two keywords: "big" and "pharma". People are rightfully skeptical of pharmaceutical companies due to the enormous amount of power they wield over our lives and how they use that power, e.g., multi-national companies suing third world states over patent infringement for distributing generic live-saving drugs.

I don't think a one-dimensional scale is an oversimplification at all. Option A: better lives for the great majority. Option B: better lives for the small minority of rich. The trick is to get people to voluntarily vote against their best self-interest.

Cool! Regardless of whether your code gets merged, it shows that xdisp.c can be tamed. Like Roger Bannister who ran the miracle mile, you showed that it can be done. Hopefully more will chip in and slay the Emacs redisplay code beast.
