NK is an ongoing humanitarian disaster right now. At the moment, everybody is standing by blaming the NK regime for not acting to resolve it. If you remove the regime, the crisis gets much worse. If you bomb the country, the crisis gets much, much worse.
When you are done bombing the snot out of NK, who will pick up the pieces? Who will be on the hook for millions of starving people? Who will be the neighbor that gets slammed by the masses of humanity in desperation?
You think China hasn't thought about all this? You think they won't automatically recognize the obvious and enormous threat to themselves? Every missile that lands in NK is a direct threat to China.
I struggled with understanding it, too. Even after reading all the docs, I didn't catch on. So I hopped on irc and the next thing I know, the author patiently walked me through each obvious step. He wasn't condescending, but the whole thing goes together so simply that I felt pretty stupid about not getting it on my own. There are nice people (including the author) on irc who are very patient with people who need help grasping the obvious.
This product is drop-dead simple. Part of my problem was that I was expecting it to be much more complicated.
Wow. Mind reading is not required. You've watched too many movies that go from strangers to married with children in 90 minutes. How about spending weeks, months, and even years building a relationship? Talking->dating->holding hands->... Spend more than 5 minutes on each stage. I know it seems old-fashioned, but it can really reduce the degree of offense when you misjudge the stage of a relationship.
Does your office serve alcohol? Does your rule of thumb extend to what you eat and drink? What kind of clothes you wear? Whether you stay or leave?
I think it would be great if it did. But then you would have to significantly restructure conferences to conform. Many of the official events of a conference are blatant violations of workplace behavior.
Perhaps it would help you to look at who appealed to the Supreme Court. If you want to defend "sovereign state governments being permitted to run their elections without undue federal meddling" you should look at the decision of the highest court in the state of Wisconsin. Which argument actually represents the voice of the state?
That is a lot of words to say that it doesn't help to have access to the source code if qualified people don't perform adequate audits.
In this regard, open source software is still better. Google "Heartbleed".
When a neglected piece of critical infrastructure code was finally examined, it was shown to have serious flaws. Top talent immediately shifted their focus and began sorely needed maintenance. Nobody asked permission. Nobody called their lawyer. They just got to work to get-er-done. I think Theo was among those to help resolve issues.
I am grateful for those eyeballs and those fingers.
Why don't FB/Google/Apple/etc expand to Auburn, CA? Or Lincoln, CA? or Lincoln, NE?
I really don't think that putting the next 5000 employees next to the last 10000 employees improves productivity. Spread out. Spread the wealth and the pain. Make yourself less vulnerable to a single point of failure.
