Whoops. Thanks. My phone's auto-correct "joke of the day." Just re-typing the correct link so folks can click on it. https://www.kontxt.io

AI Web Layer to communicate with people and AI models. https://wwww.kontxt.io

This is the ultimate time saver feature when sharing. I built a web layer that does this, but goes further with multiple highlights, navigation, and rich inline communication with humans and AI, which is integrated with a web app to save, organize, and share with humans and AI. It’s https://www.kontxt.io

Social web collaboration. Remix the web.

Open to any and all feedback. Thanks.

I'm the same! I had long work commutes on public transit, so I used my passive time to read and learn everyday to try and grow 1% each day.

I used GMail drafts body to save links and the subject as searchable tags. I saved thousands of entries this way before I noticed two things: 1.) I'm actually interested in only a few parts of each link and want an easy way to return to them in the future, and 2.) I wish I could see the parts of links other dedicated readers found useful which would both help discover quality resources and save time with highlights acting as a preview or summary. So I actually built a social annotation web overlay that saves to a web app that's both an aggregator and social network: https://www.kontxt.io/.

I publicly share most of what I read and highlight on my profile https://www.kontxt.io/profiles/d.

Hacker News is one of my seed sites I visit multiple times a day, so I created a group for myself and other HN readers to see people's highlights of links on HN: https://www.kontxt.io/groups/23423/documents. Feel free to join and share your highlights, or just quickly view all the best parts of the links on HN highlighted by others.

It would bring me no greater joy than to see the hundreds of thousands of lines of code I've developed over six years be used to unite avid readers on HN and fellow information addicts to learn and grow together as a community. Stay curious--and keep reading!

Hey there! Creator of Kontxt.io here, which was listed on the site. Quick correction.

- It's actually free. - Still under development. - It has a CMS and social network to organize, share, and discover with others. - Anyone can add the annotative collaboration features directly to their own site with a single line of code to boost engagement and sharing to grow their audience.

New feature: Stylize your highlights and add a promotion to every share. Perfect for fundraisers and charitable donations.

Example: https://www.kontxt.io/document/d/QNebKRiN9ghcqTb1U8StSZJEwlT...

Description: I highlighted a site. Put highlights on their own page. Added a background. And added a clickable promotion (to donate to the Red Cross) with analytics to see views and clicks.

I built my own https://www.kontxt.io and hit the front page of HN not too long ago. It's a modern hybrid productivity and social bookmarking / news / knowledge aggregation service. Think social web layer with CMS and social network. You can save the site / pdf (link or archive), engage with highlights, comments, and polls. There's privacy controls. It's searchable. Everything can be organized with tags as well as folders. You can join groups and follow people to discover shared content. Highlights can be shared natively to popular social platforms and observed with analytics. User's can also set a personal promotion with what they share as an added benefit and incentive to provide value.

I built https://www.kontxt.io for this. You can @mention in comments to send emails with deep-links like this:

https://www.kontxt.io/demo.html?kontxt_context_id=tJQebzVav-...

There's also google-doc like sharing controls. And it's connected to a CMS with folders and groups so it's easy to stay organized and up to date.

Not at the moment. But I'll keep that in mind as things progress.

Thanks. Ya, it's a grand vision. Every big journey begins with a single step and a lot will depend on how people actually end up using it and what they want. And I agree, I can definitely see myself adding an export feature in the future.

Thanks. Ya, I actually spoke with the founder of Hypothesis a while back, and a former contributor who was looking into using Kontxt. Kontxt not only enables rich web collaboration, but it helps atomize the web to re-use key pieces in secondary contexts like a social network or in the future, to create new content. Kontxt takes a social first approach with many ways to share and follow with others.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have worked with publishers who have added Kontxt to their site that have millions of views per month. To your point of "Pay me," what if every comment opened from a highlight also showed a donation or micro payment option directly to you? Kontxt can also make your site more shareable and increase traffic since people can highlight and share a deep-link to the specific parts that are relevant to others.

Kontxt is more than just a 3rd party comment system. It's also a CMS that lets people save their findings from across the web. And it's a social network so people can share the best parts of the web with others.

Interesting. I'll take a peek when I have a second. From a quick skim, I see one notable difference: Kontxt not only enables rich web collaboration, but it helps atomize the web to re-use key pieces in secondary contexts like a social network or in the future, to create new content.

Thanks! I'm glad you like it. And I totally agree. I'm actually looking into turning Kontxt into its own browser for the exact reasons you mentioned.

There will always be a delicate line to be addressed between free speech and moderation / censorship. There's a web layer, but pieces can also be extracted and shared in groups and feed in the app.

There is an option for publishers / site owners to natively add Kontxt directly to their site with a single line of javascript to give them an initial point of control and moderation (view only, comment, or user added highlights). However, sites can have multiple highlight layers with different privacy controls, so users can switch to another layer for discussion for something like research.

Privacy controlled layers are only accessible to those they're shared with and there's only one public layer per site. Laws will always be followed. And cruel behavior on the web will likely be addressed as it is elsewhere today. It's too early to have developed any firm policies around, but it's definitely important and will be watched and addressed as needed.
