I found this statement silly too. He's getting older. His body is slowly deteriorating. His opportunities are dwindling. His best days are probably behind him. That's reason enough for depression by itself.

And yet men kill themselves at a much higher rate than women, which empirically suggests (in the west) that the equivalent female difficulty setting is actually lower. Few dispute this argument when applied to the higher suicide rates among LGBT people.
