My childhood was PCBoard, POV-Ray, then later Lightwave, 3ds Max, Bryce. WADs, Hammer Editor, GTkRadiant, both of the scenes. Sierra and Lucasarts games... Turbo Pascal!

Made my own github alternative ways back. Kind of like cgit on steroids. I only use github for free backup now.

I'm building a C++ game engine from scratch with CC. Renderer is Vulkan, no wrappers. Around 30k LoC now, quite a ways to go yet, but CC has been doing fine overall. Of course "he" runs in circles sometimes, but I always manage to nudge him back on track.

Comments from your "preferred commenter" are like songs from your favorite band, sometimes they disappoint you.

Right. Shopify apps, too, is a gold mine.

It's funny to me how still so many don't realize you don't get hired for the best positions for being a 10x programmer who excels at hackerrank, you get hired for your proven ability to deliver useful products. Creativity, drive, vision, whatever. Code is a means to an end. If you're the type of programmer who thinks of yourself as just a programmer, and take pride in your secure code, ability to optimize functions and algorithms, you're exactly the kind of programmer AI will replace.

Quality of code has never had anything to do with which products are successful. I bet both youtube and facebook's codebase is a tangled mess.

Compared to Microsoft Office suite, Libre suite is definitely not slow.

Davinci Resolve for video editing. It's what I'd use on Windows, as well.

Lightroom vs Gimp does not make sense, should be Gimp vs Photoshop if anything.

For photos you can use digikam + darktable/rawtherapee.

Which two specific functions?

Compared to which software? Ableton? Reaper? Did you use RT kernel? JACK or ALSA? Pipewire?

DE will also affect performance.

I read or heard somewhere at least 80% of CC is written by CC and Aider (before CC was mature enough)

C posts still make the front page here and there

Cloudflare uptime has worsened a lot lately, AI coding has increased exponentially, hmm

Point me your repo, I want to see if AI can improve it.

It's a reminder to not rely on a single service.

Logic not strong in this thread.

Doubtful all services are ever down simultaneously, either way:

What do devs do when Github or Gitlab is down?

AWS? GCP? Azure?

Or whatever Atlassian product they're using.

Plus, most devs do a bit more than just produce lines of code.

The title here is beginner developer, but the article states non-developer.

Nevertheless, dev docs are usually written for reasonably experienced developers, but new to specific framework/library.

These docs would be too long-winded if they were to account for non-devs/complete beginners.

Please, don't cater to that audience in your docs.

> Crawford is not a genius, he is a visionary.

Why is it that judging someone as a genius or not comes so easy to everyone?

I find making that assessment incredibly challenging.
