You're framing it like the only two options are you either agree with them and are happy to comply or it must not matter to you.
Maybe he objects to the idea that an angry mob gets to set convention by shouting loudly and threatening to destroy your career if you don't comply with their demands.
These gatherings have become a precursor to violence and looting. It has gotten to the point that forced dispersion before they get to that point is the greater good.
Seems like he's making the point that it's costing them nothing to do this, that they are not really putting anything on the line. That their money is not where their mouths are. Did you miss that?
Who are the white supremacists here? The police? What makes you think that? This makes more sense to me:

If you're going for a typical interview, you're asking to be a cog in a machine. So if you're someone with original ideas and conviction or an interviewer asking this question you're making a category error.

Why would you be the judge of that? Parents have every right to object to their children being influenced by people that they consider to have poor character. Some people believe that libertine indulgence is a marker of poor character or poor education.
This is really the source of it. The jokes and memes have power because the underlying facts are unmentionable in polite company and go unanswered. Even here you just get downvoted. The fact that they go unanswered and that there is an instinct to bury them or censor them (you have been downvoted without a response btw) instead is even more ominous than the supposed "hate" they are attributed to. One starts to suspect that there is no answer and suppression and censorship is the only remaining option for society, which of course emboldens the heretics and gives them a moral justification - exposing the truth.
