Sure, you can always say no to a couple of grand. (referring to voluntary severance packages, not whatever the legal construct of your country guarantees - which btw is a laughable amount most of the time)

Not sure which part of Europe you are referencing, but from the layoffs I've seen and heard of (DACH) the procedure was always to lock the person out immediately after the layoff call/meeting. If that's good or bad is rather subjective, personally I would rather walk out the door right after.

One might have enough time to send their farewells, but that's about it - you are still getting payed until the end of the notice period of course. (let's not talk about severance packages, they are either non existent or a joke - you often also have to sign an NDA prohibiting you to talk about the package and the layoff in general).

So basically companies pull the same questionable stuff in Europe as well, it's far from the fairytale you sometimes read about. (there are always exceptions ofc)

I was quite convinced that Quora only consists of SEO spam nowadays - kind of a surprise reading that there are real people using it.

Well I can only talk about the tech sector, but basically companies in DE/AT complain that they can't find senior+ engineers for 45k/year (pre-tax) for years now - the salary ranges have been kind of a joke (even at the top end) for quite some time and the whole discussion about the labour shortage is a political straw man.

Imo one should rule out the mainstream gaming keyboards (those are usually not that great value).

There are quite some viable options from manufacturers like Leopold (FC750) and Varmilo (VA87) which also offer a wider variety of switches in the sub 200$ category.

If you would like to dive a bit deeper into the mechanical keyboard world - without breaking the bank - you could also have a look at the GMMK Pro (+ pick switches and keycaps) - which is probably the entry level enthusiast keeb to get right now.

We are talking about 50-60k before taxes here though (e.g. healthcare isn't included yet) - there really is not that much left in the end, especially compared to the US where quite some companies will match our European amenities (talking about software engineering jobs).

Also all inclusive contracts are quite common or some legal workarounds with payed overtime after x amount of hours (where x amount would be working 2 times as much per week), never heard of unions for this sector in DACH either.

Frankly getting a 10k salary bump in Europe is still pretty solid - for 20k I would bet most engineers around here would make a switch. (note that you tax down ~50% above the 60k you earn from now on).

> Ah, and in some countries having too many companies on the CV isn't well seen, it appears the candidate isn't able to fit-in anywhere.

True, but if someone switched jobs every year it feels like a red flag to me anywhere where the cost of hiring actually matters I would say.
