link is down, and i expect stuff like this to disappear from hacker news double quick time as they dont seem to like too much truth on the front page. its been obvious to everyone who has open eyes that the TTIP is a corporate power grab, but after perusing the docs that got leaked, its utterly shocking how blatant it is.
as a musician i agree! but spotify et al comes under record companies, this is why i want to build something open source for musicians that replaces itunes.
i am utterly baffled about this, not that his death is not sad for some people but these quotes:
'A true technology pioneer and visionary
'His contributions, which helped to lay our region's innovative technology foundation, will not be forgotten'
what is visionary or pioneering or innovative about stealing musicians songs to make money out of them!? youtube already did it along with a bunch of other sites, all of which did it illegally at the start and then tried to do deals afterwards to monetise their illegal content. its all fleas on the back of musicians work, and i find it disgusting.
because stuff that seems to enlighten people to injustice disappears damn quick round here. its fishy. i suspect tampering to remove more politically difficult subjects. there seem to be a lot of real dumb money driven programmers on here. lowest common denominator americans spewing their trained lines, which surprised me at first, because i assumed the hacker community would be more intelligent. as a result i am questioning whether i should bother continuing here.
wow, the hypocrisy of that what with the well known CIA drug running ops that were the cause of the crack epidemic in the first place is quite staggering. see: dark alliance and the CIAs own admission it smuggled drugs.
hasnt ubuntu got spyware in it ? the most obvious thing i couldnt see at a quick glance was how they audited the hardware itself against malicious backdoor code inserted during the manufacturing stage.
they sacrificed >100k guatemalans on the false pretence that they had to 'stop a communist state in their hemisphere' - we later found out it was all made up rubbish (this was after the people were dead) and the actual reason was because their mates were in united fruit company.
i call them the black government, ruining everything for everyone behind the scenes. these politicians have no control over them! they must be stopped.
what a shame all those people underneath dont understand what hes talking about. as a musician i agree about the sound quality, and im amazed to see all these people saying they cant hear the difference! really ? well, i can hear the difference but the reason i dont want my tracks on google or spotify or any of that is because i was never given a choice whether i wanted my records on there.
neil youngs pono is highly unfortunate, and its a testament to peoples total misunderstanding that he managed to pull in more than a million dollars in donations to create the format, when there was already a format called FLAC, which had been around for years, and did what he wanted.
the only browser choices these days seem to be either from unethical corporations or unethical open source non-profits. anyone know where to turn to get a decent browser with no ads or unethical corporations involved ?
i agree. the capitalist system is broken (or more has failed already) and the inequality now is getting overwhelming. cue downvotes from rich people :D
at some point i really hope the hacker community rejects google entirely. for me, especially as a musician, google is dead. after the NDA deal they did with the PRS, i am not permitted to know how much they pay out per stream for my tracks which they weren't mandated to control. they also built their entire platform (youtube) from illegal content. the illegal content came first, they then built a user base from this, which they used as currency to do deals with major record labels. wow. i intend to take this to court with a bunch of other musicians.
theres only about two journalists in the world with any integrity or truth to their reports anyway. i think a lot of people are moving away from traditional media, and indeed rejecting it entirely as irreverent and usually useless to their everyday lives. news is designed to incite fear, and is mostly conveyed directly from your corrupt government.
i personally know one of the first people that brought electric cars to your country (im assuming USA, sorry if im wrong!) and i know for a fact he was sunk by your oil companies on purpose and they threw the idea away. in his case, it certainly wasnt anything to do with a lack of market or bad business decision, big corporations ruined him on purpose.
