At AWE myself and I think the most interesting part of the announcement was how it came right AFTER talking about all of the tools available for porting existing AR experiences to the snap platform and tooling for building new lenses. Stark departure from Apple’s Vision Pro developer strategy, makes me far more likely to build something for it.

Had an issue in a project where multiple media files with the same/similar names were colliding. After spending hours with chat gpt wrangling python scripts to try and sort it out programmatically, I shifted gears and built a web tool that would allow me to manually review the content and select the correct media file to associate with it in about 5 minutes, allowing me to comb through and finally fix the issue & verify the content was correct in about an hour. It made me realize I needed to completely re-think how I set about solving problems now that I have an entirely different set of tools to develop- that has been the biggest "Oh shit" moment for me, looking into the mirror and recognizing how AI will re-shape me as a developer.

Love this concept but living in Arizona it's always been the same image every time I check :/ I might just be checking at bad times but would be lovely if it could be fine-tuned to be a bit more relative to the location. Incredible idea though, so simple but so much lovelier than your standard weather UI

Not using an HMD regularly anymore but I'd like to ask other current/former XR devs- have you noticed any issues with your eyes/neck that you suspect could be tied to extensive time in-headset?

I am currently in physical therapy for some head/neck problems and I am realizing how much I had trained myself to _not_ use my peripheral vision. If I look at something, I turn my head so it's in the "sweet spot" of my vision rather than moving my eyes. I imagine this would only get worse with extended AVP usage due to the heavy use of eye tracking for control.

Seems like a pretty strong indicator that AR glasses are still being worked on, this definitely feels like one of those features Apple ships to refine before the proper hardware is ready.

It's because the accountability isn't clear cut. Many hands have touched those levers of power over the last 20 years this specific problem has incubated, not all of them governmental.

as an Arizonan with a rapidly rising water bill because of Colorado River standoffs that one is personal :)

The NIMBY problem is very real especially for an area filled with resorts and vacation homes, but when you have 20 years to figure it out I think there has to be more than that at play. They're ultimately going to fix the problem with a transmission line anyways.

I don't think it's that clear of a delineation especially in situations like this with utilities and governments wrestling over regulations. I believe that a lot of the folks who have been in the drivers seat and ignored the chips in the windshield that is the fabric of our society are happy to have something to direct blame towards no matter their affiliations or underlying beliefs about how resources ought to be managed, or even their own attitudes about AI usage.

A lot of these types of AI complaints feel like blaming a pothole for cracking your windshield in half even though you've been driving around with it full of chips and micro cracks for years. It's certainly exacerbated the issue to a point where it's impossible to ignore now but the warning signs have been there for years- utilities and municipalities failing to secure power and water resources for future residents, companies engaging in mass layoffs only for the stock prices to climb. AI adoption aggravated the symptoms, the root causes remain the same.

I have transferred published apps before, and was hoping to avoid bringing Apple into the loop to transfer my own app to myself or deal with the absolutely ancient interfaces still in place for that process since this app hadn't been published. Lesson learned the hard way, jump through the Apple hoops or get the stick.

Watched that video last night, really approachable and made me re-think everything I thought I knew about photography!

More than the Android problem, Meta has shat the bed over and over again on their MDM solutions- it's really hard to sell any company on experimenting with headsets when there aren't good ways to manage them.

Hell Apple has given me problems for infringing on my own trademark- accidentally registered an app under the wrong developer account and tried to just delete and recreate under the correct one, took multiple rounds of review and having to file my own trademark complaint for them to allow me to use the name again. Great way to get stuck in App Store Hell

A lot of comments on this talking about how an AR/VR product would never make it but I think a lot of people fail to understand just how badly Apple failed to meet existing VR/AR developers where they are. Apple told us all to learn Swift and port our projects or pay thousands of dollars in Unity licensing costs to ship our existing projects to the new platform. Was incredibly heartbreaking to realize I simply can't afford the fees to put my XR projects in the App Store despite having iOS & XR experience and already being part of the developer program.

"To fill the gap, Wristen is hiring teens as apprentices right out of high school.

'They’re new. They don’t even have a set of tools,” Wristen said. “It’s usually about four or five months of hell where we have little mistakes that cost us time and money. It’s fixable. … And once they are trained in it, you don’t have those little deals anymore.'"

Oh wow, you mean you have to train apprentices in the trade if you want to have enough workers around to meet demand? My brother is IBEW in the PNW and had a lot of classmates that trained by working for data centers- he always framed it as a pretty sweet deal, some of those companies would even cover the cost of tools for new apprentices, you earn them as you progress through the program.

If you're going to rely on people you have to invest in them- if you're only willing to pay $20/hr for pre-trained people, don't expect them to show you any loyalty in return.

That's exactly what I fear- that Mythos/Glasswing has made anthropic confident that they can survive by only serving that type of customer. Would be sad to see.

very easy to configure claude code to route to GLM as well.

FWIW their "Fin" agent on their web page tells me: "Claude Code is not included in the standard Pro plan. It's only available with premium seats on Team and Enterprise plans. However, Pro plans do include improved coding capabilities through our GitHub integration, which lets you connect code repositories directly to Claude. You also get access to code execution and file creation features in the Claude apps. For the full Claude Code terminal experience, you'd need to upgrade to a Team or Enterprise plan with premium seats"

I think it's odd to say that pressing to disk was more permissive of bad code. Releases like Cyberpunk suggest the opposite- that development teams selling games that can be updated take that into account as they plan and release, and the quality suffers upon launch for it.
