SpaceX, and CEO Elon Musk, immediately declared the mission a success since the incredibly low bar of not blowing up on the pad had been surpassed. NASA administrator Bill Nelson Tweeted approvingly, and several bloggers declared the mission a successful first try, yielding great data.

I’m not a rocket scientist, so I’ll save the commentary on the value of iterative development for others.

But the immediate claims of “MISSION SUCCESS” rang hollow nearly immediately as it was abundantly clear that not all was well on the ground.

Because Tomlinson starts out by talking about 2012?? The company got to where they were on the basis of regulatory credit exchanges for the majority of its relatively long history. It is no longer some startup darling, mind you, it's got years on it comparatively: https://www.businessadministrationinformation.com/news/the-t... If another 10 years pass where credits do not significantly contribute to its profits, then we can make a case for a fundamental change.

Also, take a look at what happened in 2020: https://news.bloombergtax.com/financial-accounting/sec-pushe...

And their significance in 2021 as well: https://news.bloombergtax.com/financial-accounting/sec-pushe...

and that's why it is a historical account

he's talking about profits, not revenue

Gamma squeezes should be illegal, with some sort of retroactive motion on the appropriate options spreads. Completely bonkers how many times it has been pulled on $TSLA.

lol good job reading the FAQ closely
icapulet2

he is referring to how the company has almost gone bankrupt several if not many times. even Musk himself has disclosed as much - after the fact, of course.

The data comes from Tesla, not from third party investigators. The minimal data from third parties, like Consumer Reports, says it's shit outside of highway use (which is the safest kind of road to travel on already).

Tesla doesn't release total yearly mileage data anymore so there isn't much to work with. There is some IIHS data and from that Tesla models do worse than comparable vehicles without a doubt (https://www.tesladeaths.com/index.html#FAQ).

lol are you serious? Google "tesla ZEV credits". and CAEATFA has landed it over $225MM worth in write offs.

Harming, ever so slightly. Still worth it though.

How long until someone asks Elon about it to his face in a public setting?
icapulet2

That's without counting for the Houston deaths as the use of FSD/Autopilot hasn't been verified.

"they" "they" they"

do you spread FUD by speaking monolithically about other groups of people as well? also lol at the dark side part as you can see from the Wikipedia entry Tesla under musk is hardly a shining example of safety engineering, following OSHA's rules, interacting reasonably with the press, etc. etc. etc.
