Thanks for checking out the post!

A few additional details I didn’t fit in the main post:

The app currently supports JPEG/PNG images and can detect common generative signatures from models like Stable Diffusion, DALL·E, and Midjourney.

We're experimenting with a small batch upload feature for journalists to verify multiple images at once.

I'm a solo developer, so all feedback and ideas are super appreciated.

Hey HN

I recently launched an iOS app called ImgDetect — a lightweight tool that helps users detect whether an image is AI-generated (deepfake or synthetic) in just a few seconds. With the growing use of tools like Midjourney, DALL·E, and Stable Diffusion, I felt there was a need for a simple, privacy-focused mobile solution.

How it works:

Combines artifact analysis with deep learning-based pattern detection

Works offline with no data stored

Designed for journalists, content creators, and everyday users

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ai-image-detector-imgdetect/id...

What I need help with:

What are effective, non-paid channels to grow early traction for niche utility apps like this?

Any suggestions on alternative monetization strategies for freemium tools?

Has anyone experimented with cross-promoting through newsletters, open-source tools, or communities?

Happy to share more about the tech stack or data model if anyone’s curious. Appreciate your thoughts and suggestions!

Thanks — ImgDetect dev

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! Right now, our main focus with ImgDetect is on delivering fast AI detection and maintaining a simple, seamless user experience. But I agree — if server load increases significantly or we need extra protection in the future, implementing a creative captcha system like the one you mentioned sounds like a really smart idea. I'll definitely keep it in mind! Thanks again for sharing this concept.
