This is interesting. Do you have any specific examples?

Same same. I'd been a die hard mac user since System 6 in the early 90s, but last year I switched to Asahi Linux and my next hardware may or may not be from Apple.

Is there a reason to use Gonic instead of Navidrome? I've been using the latter for hosting my music collection for over a year now and really like it. Good riddance Spotify. [1]

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for more choices. But it seems like you have opinions on this topic and I'd like to hear them.

Same. It looks like battery replacement from ifixit is not too difficult, so I plan to do that when the time comes.

Incidentally, I just switched to Asahi Linux, but that was for software quality and openness reasons, rather than anything to do with performance.

The new rules will be incorporated into tzdata, which is used for various operating systems, software libraries, etc.

I’m with Freedom Mobile in Vancouver, currently using a rather old iPhone. My next phone will probably run GOS.

I have issues with Freedom on my iPhone too. Poor signal, or else “good” signal but poor data backhaul.

Are you pretty sure your issues went away after going back to stock Android? Or is it possible it’s just Freedom Mobile’s general issues?

I did a detailed review of a few Canadian VPS providers last year.

Last year, I moved from DigitalOcean to FullHost (their Vancouver datacentre) for hosting a small SaaS and a bunch of personal projects. It's cheaper and FAR better performance.

Me too. I’ve been an Apple fan for 3 decades, and the Mac has always been my daily driver.

Up until this past November when I installed Asahi and haven’t looked back. It’s been tough work switching, but the writing’s been on the wall for a while now, so best get started.

Also been hit with this using DHL. Doing trade with the USA is such a gamble now with so much uncertainty.

Suit yourself. I think a little whimsy is refreshing.

Finally!

Here is a delightful article from NYT from last year on this topic. Truly fascinating and bewildering.

An automated batch job started failing for us recently, and we found that it is because this source of randomness from NIST has been shut down "Due to a lapse in federal funding".

> it deviates a bit from what might be the most common setup, but it's undoubtedly me

This is delightful. Personal projects are a great place to buck the technical monoculture and try something unique. I really enjoyed reading this.

This entire blog really resonates. I don't take it all literally, but it is funny and insightful and dark and poetic and accurate in many ways.

More weird stuff like this please.
