I'm not sure if it's a option, but contract roles are probably more common than FTE here in Aus. I've been contracting for the last 6 years and most of the work I've had has either been through my network, or through recruiters. There are tech recruitments agencies here and nearly all of them have someone that specialises in contracts.
In my experience, if you have the right people in your network that you know will be looking for contractors at some point, they'll come to you first before putting the job out on job sites.
Are you thinking of being a contractor (as in you work for one company like an employee for 3-6 months), or a freelancer that comes in to complete certain tasks?
There's a company in Australia called Auticon (https://auticon.com.au/) that might be worth checking out/contacting for ideas. They only employ IT consultants with Autism. Have you looked into roles using big data? Especially data around some of the things here's interested in.
I've recently started doing some consulting CTO work and am getting to the point where I'll need to outsource some work. I'm looking to build up a list of freelancers that I could call on in the future, and just generally network with others in the industry. I mainly work with startups and scale ups at this stage and my usual tech stack is React or Vue, Node.js or PHP and RN for mobile. Always open to different technologies but would prefer if it were something I could jump in on or perform decent code reviews on.
