I have anecdotal evidence of old people with dementia driving and not having any idea where they are or what they are doing. https://www.thelocal.se/20170809/swedish-experts-call-for-ne... claims that they do recall licenses, but evidently not as thoroughly as they should.

I agree, but to live up to that system those that are no longer competent should have it taken away. As far as I know(I don't drive) there is no need to ever re-take the theory test which has been revised a number of times since many people took their license in the first place or pass any kind of medical to have it renewed.

On the other hand plenty of people that really should have theirs taken away don't get theirs taken away, like old people with clear mental issues or people with bad eye sight that affect their ability to see people crossing roads etc.

As a Nordic citizen, I'm torn between believing that everyone, citizen or not, should have the same rights to healthcare, an education, transport, telecommunication and so on and that by enforcing this system we have effectively cut off the possibility of private services within those fields that some may need or prefer, specifically healthcare to get appointments at their own leisure rather than being assigned one that you're practically force to abide by or the ability to privately tutor kids rather than sending them to a public school that doesn't necessarily fulfil their needs or potential. That said, I much prefer the system of everyone having the same basic rights at a very affordable rate than potentially having to struggle to live a decent life at the expense of getting a better service if you happen to be able to afford it.

Insulin is something we get for free(as in covered by taxes) over here in at least the UK(where I currently reside) and Sweden, where I am originally from and where I was first diagnosed. I don't know what I would do in a society where the medication I need to live a decent life, let alone survive, would cost me an arm and a leg(appropriate phrase in this case :P) to get.

It refers to fashion, behaviour and the like, not your natural physical attributes, that I may add are not quite accurate either. I am not 6' tall nor am I blond, despite being to my knowledge ethnically Swedish or Scandinavian since at least a century back. I moved away from Sweden a couple of years ago but the Sweden in which I grew up in there were a lot of immigrants for various reasons and by now a couple of generations of them. Some of these people have now become major popculture phenomenons precisely because they do not follow the stereotypical Law of Jante characteristics, most notably Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is no stranger to claiming to be the best or speaking his mind.

Personally, I find the effect of the Law of Jante to in many cases hold back the progress of Sweden, in that the desire to improve is often low to non-existent, okay is preferable.

As a swede living in London, I was shocked to find the NHS still uses paper prescriptions that are consumed upon use, at least in my limited experience. In Sweden, every prescription I have is digital and tied to my ID, accessible from any pharmacy or hospital in the country and is not necessarily consumed upon use, I can easily reuse it and renew it.
