"Roger Ebert, who had praised the “pointed social satire” of Verhoeven’s Robocop, found the film “one-dimensional,” a trivial nothing “pitched at 11-year-old science-fiction fans.”
I was about that age when it came out. Still one of my favorite movies, sci-fi, satire and all. I think I'll sit down and watch it this weekend.
Happy Birthday, GitHub! I use it every day to collaborate with fellow hackers that don't live anywhere close to me. It's indispensable for me. Here's to 5 more years!
This reminds me of an obviously perfectly logical request a coworker came to me with once.
Even though our CRM automatically emailed our customers a copy of their invoice once their order was taken, she wanted to print out the invoice, scan it back to her PC as a PDF, then email that PDF to the client "just to make sure." Nevermind the fact that the CRM had a mechanism specifically designed for manually emailing an invoice to the customer already built in in the event that they didn't get the invoice the first time.
Great article. I especially like the focus on writing. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I used to spend time between assignments in class and homework writing short stories when I was a kid. That is partially why I became a programmer as well. Started out writing little TI-83 apps and moved on to Windows apps and now I am a full-time web developer (mostly Ruby on Rails stuff) and I absolutely love coding.
They could easily use this to take down sites like Wikileaks. I don't condone piracy, but this is going way too far. As long as there is a force against it, P2P will thrive and expand.
