The Eames Lounge Chair is a very comfortable chair, a lot of the high price comes from high quality materials, fair labor and environmental protocols of the processes and materials. Herman Miller is a quality manufacturer and is dedicated to making great furniture.
You will probably be able to tell the difference in the feel of the materials and the design details between the HM and replica. I've sat in a few different versions of replicas and the original and they are all very comfortable. The replicas are lower quality, you might not have them for 50 years, they might die earlier, they are after all a 'skin-job'.
If you're really thinking about it, do consider the resale value as part of investment, nice used examples fetch $3500-4000. If the classic Black and Walnut is your style that will probably be the easiest to recoup if you decide it's not for you.
Watch DWR or Hive they some times have 10% off sales that will at least save you the taxes or shipping depending where you live.
I'd appreciate it if you would apologize for your comment, we don't look for solutions here, just more understanding and greater empathy for peoples feelings.
The posts from multiple HN members at superorganizers.substack.com look like a PR company at work. It's nothing special or derisive, but perhaps something to be noted.
As a user of Adobe products I didn't find any progress due to the insights in the article to be evidenced in the software they publish. It could be that Mr. Belsky's projects are outside of my daily drivers, but as of 2012 Adobe's software has lost it's edge. It could also be that the article is aimed at C-suite occupants. If you try out a 'reveal bullshit" plugin for your browser, this may become moderately more evident.
This is not a new discussion, although related; I would like to find other packages to belay my reliance, but still can't get away from Adobe's flagship Photoshop.
Maybe 2 discussions are here, one of legal/fiscal and another of social culpability.
Absolutely, we have the process to modify laws or treaties we find no longer to suit the modern country. We try to move forward with better laws or fairer treaties, everyday. We as living citizens have the responsibility to improve today's laws. (As I hope we do regarding police conduct, to be topical.)
If I take your statement "...Citizens is taking responsibility collectively as a populace for the actions of the state." I would have to accept that my ancestors escaping persecution in another country and coming to this one, that I am morally bound to take on the social dogmas of the United States for crimes I did not commit or do not endorse today. I don't believe this to be correct or fair, but this is my opinion.
It seems like the historical weight of this country (or maybe any country) will crush it under past social deeds that are irremediable.
Unfortunately, we can not correct the past, but we should heed it, to not make similar mistakes. If there is no way to not be guilty for the crimes of the state then perhaps we should abandon the state.
Who is this 'we' you reference? Many people came to the US long after the Trail of Tears. Are they responsible for crimes committed on Native Americans before they or their ancestors/families arrived in a recognized (at the time of arrival) Sovereign Country.
Would be interested in your justification for holding citizens of today's US responsible for an event that happened more than 100 years ago, before they lived or breathed.
"That being said, Google gets primary access to your personal data and habits, and then also gets to sell advertising based on that data."
Then lets find legislation that enforces privacy, but still allows them to work with advertisers. The platform is here, but needs adjustment.
The primary/top database (Numbeo) you source is of dubious quality - i.e. Opinion based. Other sources vary wildly in reputation and don't offer information down to the city level you offer in search. The link to the CDC is to the homepage and offers no further depth on the subject you are reporting on.
Don't understand why you have a marketing type message that offers a calculation cost of savings from not drinking bottled water. It is not based on if the place searched has drinkable tap water or not. Also where do you get these prices?
As a tech demo it is fine - as a reputable source of information its on par with John Daly recommending Grey Goose to prevent Coronavirus.
This site is contributing to confusing or mis-information about tap water quality. For those who don't take the time to consider your sources, it is doing them a dis-service. You should label this at the top as a non-scientific tool of evaluating of tap water. It almost seems like you are working for a bottled water company.
MIT - What! where is the Editor? This is crap (pun intended) that belongs on a parenting website. Go offer your article to the correct publication, they would be delighted to have an MIT scholar contribute. In the meantime can one of the leading tech .EDU get back to solving issues bigger than potty training.
