I haven't used FB for months. I only found out about the "outage" and the "whistleblower" on Twitter. For messaging I have switched back to (encrypted) email. Facebook is not just useless, it is also full of crap. Their apps are always asking for updates almost on a daily basis, and that's about 100MEGABYTES per update, just to solve "tiny errors" and insert unnecessary features. There has also been that frequent news of data leaks but Facebook was never held accountable for it. And they do not even tell affected users about it. Messenger and Instagram are not safe for kids either. Letting minors use such apps make them prone to harmful content. And you cannot even do anything about it. Their report button is useless.
I don't think it's fair to compare video games to social media. The former is intended for entertainment, regardless of its violent content. Players and their parents are aware of its fictional nature. Social media tackles about real life issues and dubious things that claim to be real. It influences people's view of reality and how they act with their life. So that's why it needs legislation. Meanwhile, playing as a thief or a gangster in GTA does not make you a real gangster or that there is any evidence that GTA players become gangsters, for example.
