been thinking about buying one, but the whole debacle with locking down the fw put me off for a bit.

> just blows my mind that companies don’t

i'm pleasantly surprised when products don't come with all the security features :) hopefully it was their intent and not a fluke.

the amount of hoops hobbyist hackers need to jump through in order to play around is really getting out of hand.

same, not worth getting 100GB of content getting scrapped every other day.

reiteration is still important

unit test for sure, but not integration.

the chain of design to implementation is so laser focused on the key doing what is meant to do that they forget there's an existing ecosystem they have to respect.

> The argument being made for this specific feature

great display of intellectual honesty here.

exactly, but it doesn’t pertain to you until you pay.

if we assume there’s a directional graph with edges labeled as “visited”. what linkedin is offering is to traverse it backwards for a fee.

what they’re demanding is ludicrous. pure entitlement that would have horrible ramifications for all social media platforms.

should a gdpr export include who has unliked/unreposted your posts too? it definitely pertains to you.

don't see the issue, the data of who visited my profile belongs first to the visitor and to me iff i pay for it. seems pretty clear, no?

the example is atrocious, seems like erlang actor model but for python.

this is explained in the article... referred to as Level 2 of Richard Maturity Model.

"Everyone stopped at Level 2 of the RMM"

it's a very modern idea, too. historically people names were associated with their profession.

for the op, it might not define you but it does define you for others.

CS2 is a good example of this. You can start the game with -insecure and only play on non-VAC servers.

If you want a more serious competitive scene you have FACEIT, which AC is covered in the article.

> that there's nobody of value on those platforms so now you say people should stop wanting to connect in the first place

that's exactly what i said and not a figment of your imagination.

if your social circle mostly exists on instagram like the person that i was replying to mentioned :), then you have no social life. any of these platforms is just an add-on to real social interaction. prioritize the real thing and the platform stops mattering.

> social media is a cancer

it isn't but your comment is.

this is a very 21st century thing, the ability to know what everyone is doing at any time. extremely voyeuristic too.

the only social circle that truly matters is the geographically close one. no amount of E2EE or fancy chat app will replace being physically present.

find a different employer? what kind of argument is that.

what does your social circle being on Instagram bring to you? seriously, this picture-sharing app has evolved into this content spread machine that brings very little value.
