you should use a payment orchestrator so you can easily move between paypal and stripe to another payment processor if needed. a quick search of hn shows the horror stories of people getting kicked off of stripe/paypal without notice and losing their revenue / subscriptions overnight

Sorry- I just noticed this post and thought I'd comment. The HN community helped me when I got kicked off of Stripe that I thought it would be a way to give back

Sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, this is far to common with Stripe. Stripe shut down my previous SaaS without warning or explanation. It was almost a death sentence for my business.

I built OpenPay (getopenpay.com) so you can flexibly move from Stripe to another payment processor without losing a cent of revenue. Happy to get you set up, and help you migrate from Stripe. Feel free to reach out to me at lancectk [at] getopenpay.com and I can hop on a call with you today to help you get migrated

We've helped dozens of people in your position. We can help you quickly transition the code you've written (our API is basically the same) and get your business up and running again

100% I second this ^ I am a founder myself and had the same unfortunate experience with Stripe. Stripe shut down my previous SaaS without warning or explanation. It was almost a death sentence for my business.

I built OpenPay (getopenpay.com) so businesses can flexibly move from Stripe to another payment processor without losing a cent of revenue. Happy to help anyone on HN get set up. Feel free to reach out to me at lance [at] getopenpay.com

PS we don't have a public pricing page yet but we charge less than Stripe. Stripe charges 0.7% for Stripe billing–we're offering a HN discount for 0.5% so we're cheaper than Stripe and give you the flexibility to move between payment processors

I had the same experience at my previous startup and I ended up going down a rabbit hole of research and testing. I discovered there is this concept of "payment orchestration" which allows you to retry failed payments on other payment processors.

I learned that Stripe is one of the most conservative payment processors (to protect its reputation with card issuers like Visa and Mastercard), and typically has a higher payment decline rate than other processors. My recommendation is to retry these failed payments in another payment processor like Checkout.com, Airwallex, or Adyen if you're big enough.

Side note, after learning how big of a problem this is, I started a company called OpenPay (getopenpay.com) to solve this exact issue. We've helped hundreds of customers like yourself reduce their payment decline rates. Feel free to reach out to me at lance [at] getopenpay.com

Unfortunately, this is far to common with Stripe. Stripe shut down my previous SaaS without warning or explanation, and later turned it back on after admitting they accidentally shut it down. It was almost a death sentence for my business.

It's become more common for early stage businesses to get kicked off of Stripe. Whether that's because of more stringent rules on their end, a larger base of customers in general, or an increase of "unsavory" businesses, Stripe has unfortunately become a gatekeeper to monetizing on the internet. If Stripe doesn't like your business, it's very hard to get it off the ground.

I'm a founder that bootstrapped my previous business to $40M ARR and Stripe accidentally kicked us off for a month (and later reinstated our account) but it was almost a death sentence for our business.

I built OpenPay (getopenpay.com) because it’s the product I wish I had when I built my previous business. We offer everything you need to run your subscription business, and you can use whatever payment processor you want so you aren't beholden to Stripe.

If any founders out there want redundancy with their payment processing so the same doesn't happen to you, we're more than happy to help. Just reach out and we can get you set up.

I'm one of the founders of OpenPay (getopenpay.com) and we support all this functionality and have a simple to use API. We are charging way less than Stripe so you don't have to pay the "Stripe tax" just to run your business

You can also bring in whichever payment processor you want which will help you save on your payment processing fees

I'm one of the founders of OpenPay (getopenpay.com) and we offer comprehensive subscription management and analytics, and our customers can bring in any payment processor they want. We don't lock people into only using one payment processor like Stripe so we support a lot of businesses that have gotten banned from Stripe

Would love to partner together to support all the subscription + hosted pages + analytics functionality

Stripe is notorious for this. I'm a founder who bootstrapped a business to $30M ARR in less than 3 years and Stripe almost killed us by kicking us off of their product without giving us a heads up

I started a business called OpenPay (getopenpay.com) to help founders like you. We can migrate your data / subscriptions off and help you get set up with a new payment processor.

Feel free to reach out to us on our website and we'll get you set up ASAP
