About the role: MasterSpaParts.com is the leading reseller of Master Spas replacement parts, headquartered in Wisconsin (Central Time). We need a Senior Magento 2 developer to take on complex projects, mentor two full‑time offshore developers, and help us clear out a backlog of improvements. This is a part‑time contract (10–20 hours per week) with flexible hours; you’ll coordinate regularly with the team in Central Time. We rarely use phone calls or video—clear, written communication is essential.

Responsibilities:

- Lead development and maintenance of our Magento 2.0 site, managing backend operations, security, stability, and performance. - Develop and implement new features and UX enhancements: improve shopping cart, checkout flows, product pages, and responsive/mobile design. - Implement integrations and troubleshoot third‑party tools: Apple Pay, Google Pay, Zonos shipping options, Cloudflare, Formstack, Google Maps, and other APIs. - Handle tasks that require logging into third‑party developer accounts (Apple Developer, Google Maps API), and manage Klaviyo email marketing integration and related campaigns. - Optimize site speed—ensure pages load in under two seconds—and work on SEO‑related improvements. - Set up and maintain ancillary services such as Answerbase Q&A widgets, live chat integrations, and other customer‑facing features. - Mentor and coordinate a team of two Magento developers in India. Translate ambiguous requirements into clear tasks, enforce prioritization based on business impact, and ensure timely completion. - Communicate regularly with the project manager and owner. Provide status updates, document solutions, and raise clarifying questions to prevent rework.

Required qualifications: - 5+ years of Magento development with deep expertise in Magento 2, including custom modules, theme development, and complex integrations. - Strong PHP, MySQL, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript skills, plus experience implementing and optimizing third‑party services like payment gateways, Klaviyo, and live chat tools. - Proven track record optimizing page speed and performance—comfortably get Magento pages to load in under two seconds. - Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor other developers, prioritize tasks, and deliver projects independently. Remote work demands deliberate, transparent communication; evaluate candidates’ written clarity in resumes and emails. - Proactive problem‑solver comfortable with asynchronous work—successful candidates take action without waiting for step‑by‑step instructions, default to problem‑solving, and manage their own schedule. - Comfortable working as a contractor (1099), with a commitment of roughly 10–20 hours weekly.

How to apply: Send an email to hiring [at] mikearnesen {dot} com explaining why you’re a good fit for this contract role, along with links to Magento 2 projects you’ve led. We’ll ask shortlisted candidates a few written questions to assess communication style and then schedule an interview. Agencies will not be considered.
