It's interesting how you read "her position" to mean "affluent, attractive Canadian who broke the law", and not "attempting to pass through a border crossing with an incomplete application for a Trade NAFTA work visa".
I always thought that Bitwarden, the password manager, was open source, but the Secret Manager was a paid add-on that was not fully open source. Is that not the case?

When nearing end of life, many people, especially fathers, say they wish they'd dedicated more time to their children rather than work. While meaningful work can provide purpose, it doesn't compare to the happiness derived from building meaningful relationships with loved ones. Children offer a rare opportunity to enjoy one of the deepest forms of human connection available, and I think it's shortsighted to put career advancement over building a family. Balancing work and family life is challenging, but the payoff is well worth it.
The key point here is feeling obligated to work outside regular hours. My most productive time is early in the morning or late at night. There’s just less happening at that time, both professionally and personally. There are fewer interruptions and less need to context switch, making it easier to focus and get things done.
Knowing that I’m more creative and productive outside normal business hours, I try to take brakes during the day because I know I’ll make up the time later. I’d much rather get out of the house and take an hour walk when the sun is up and work at night.
Exactly. Just look at Bitwarden's privacy policy, for example:

I was thinking the same thing about cannabis being more analogous to wine. Processing cannabis is less complicated than making wine, but it still requires precision and time. It seems like it would be better to follow the model of winery tours and tastings, and just apply that to cannabis farms.
I don’t think this would work well because of the relatively small harvesting window for flowers. Assuming that it’s an outdoor farm, you’d also have to contend with frost and other factors that could destroy the harvest. I think it would be nice to have a farm that people could visit though and learn about the process. Another idea that I’ve considered before would be to rent a small plot of land on a larger farm, and pay a fee to have someone else grow and harvest the plant for you. Finally, I think there’s a market for a harvesting service, where people bring in whole plants, unharvested, an the company fully processes the plant (trims and cures the flower, makes bubble hash or shatter from the leaves, etc.)
I think the term was used simply to attract talent and give prestige to the role. I saw a video recently where Chamath Palihapitima claimed to have invented the job title Data Scientist to convince a candidate who held a Ph.D to join Facebook.
I’ve also found that people external to the tech org love to refer to everyone in the tech org as engineers, regardless of their role, again to likely add prestige or clout to their role. “Our engineers are working on it”, “I’ll review with engineering”, etc.
The misuse of the term engineer has been creeping in tech for a while now. Sales Engineer immediately comes to mind as a title that should be renamed. I think that there should either be separations between job title and professional designations, or requirements to hold a job title that includes a designation. A good example is the technologist role. From what I can tell, those roles require a technologist designation in the specific field. The argument could be made that if Apple started calling their Genius Bar staff technologists, it would devalue the designation.

Maybe the point is not that nothing matters, but that life is ephemeral so put your energy into the things that matter to you.
I was just telling an anecdote of when my first child was born and I took parental leave. I was shunned by some colleagues, and even my own father, for what was considered a career-limiting move. Looking back now nearly six years later, I couldn't tell you what we shipped in those weeks before or after my leave. I can barely even recall what broad initiative I was working on. But I do remember the days and nights with my wife, getting to know my child, and think about it often. Had I taken the advice of so many around me, I would have missed a once in a lifetime opportunity that I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life. Nobody will remember that about me, and the memory will be gone when I die, but it matters to me.
Not trying to be pedantic, but AgileBits is a Canadian company and has servers in Canada, the US, and the EU. I think they also released a gift card solution to address the concern of recurring payments, or maybe for privacy. I never really understood the use case for this (besides using it as an actual gift), but you made me think about it now. Having said all that, I think your points still stand, but for me I haven't found a company that is more trustworthy. FWIW, I use 1Password at work and KeepassXC at home.
