I use Tailscale as my primary interface for handling this. Simple as adding your nextdns id number in the DNS settings and you are done.

Instruct your Tailscale invitees to download the app and voila, simply toggle it on or off as needed.

Let’s call this what it is:

Automattic shaking down the biggest competitor to his hosting business.

But a service disruption like this is bad strategy.

WPEngine runs accounts for many very recognizable brands and large orgs - kinds of clients Matt wants to see switch over.

Given disruptions like this, those clients are far more likely to see Wordpress as unreliable software before their hosting provider.

And Matt might not realize it but almost all of those large accounts already have multiple devs who are _eager_ to migrate away from Wordpress.

That’s really not a fair statement from him given:

1. Based on their github orgs, there is effectively no separation between wordpress.org and Automattic.

2. The core WP contributors trac has a long history of not really being welcome to new contributions. Outside of the design decisions coming from Automattic, third party contributions either die in multi-year deliberations or get directed to the plugin system.

3. The development culture around WP, which largely revolves around the plugin ecosystem - has always trended towards paid plugins over OSS software.

ADHD trends towards the extremes.

A hyper-fixation session feels closer to how people describe addiction than I’d like to admit.

When unmedicated, I can easily find myself diving down the rabbit hole for 12-14 hours straight, working on interesting but unimportant tasks.

You forget about any concept of time. You feel hunger but can’t pull yourself away to eat lunch or dinner. Daily goals are forgotten. You only stop when your body literally forces you.

If you choose React Native, you’ll save your team significant time and effort by using the Expo framework instead of the base CLI.

Around 2009, I found a bottle of “grandma’s original molasses” from the mid-90s which the nutritional facts claiming had 30% DV of iron. I compared it against a new bottle at the time, which listed 10% DV.

Today, a new same jars have iron listed as 2%

This honestly isn’t a great choice for beginners for a number of reasons.

I honestly believe this is the best possible solution but grade school curriculum and funding being controlled by state legislatures is a real issue.

Sad. I'm surprised Domains wasn't rolled into Google Workspace.

The HATEOAS approach is viable for some applications but I wouldn't necessarily call it the future.

Using custom html attributes as the base for complex client-side interactions is arguably a step backwards when considering the story around maintenance.

Right now, if you are building a robust component library - it's much easier to maintain using a template language with strong Typescript / IDE support, like JSX or similar.

if that's not feasible, a service like FocusMate in your home office.

With ADHD, a single HN post could have me following source material and child nodes up to 5-6 layers deep.

Once the time-blindness wears off, the anxiety sets in you realize hours have passed and outstanding work is due soon.

What sort of worked:

- Blocking web sites during work hours (SelfControl for MacOS and NextDNS for devices)

What did work:

- Consistent sleep schedule (10PM)

- Mindfulness meditation in the morning

- Getting physically active in the morning

- Working in a different environment

What helped on top of that:

- Getting prescribed for ADHD medication

- Professional counseling from a therapist

- Dealing with what’s causing your anxiety (or depression)
