Slack is absolutely _unusable_ on a slow connection. It's not even just a matter of being patient, it flat out breaks with everything timing out.

I used to use the IRC gateway to maintain contact with some friends, and basically lost access to that social group when they closed down the IRC gateway.

IRC is far more inclusive, plus it's open and federated if you're into that.

Not OP but can confirm the exact same experience when microdosing psilocybin. I get them from friends who grow them. Spores are not illegal, they can be bought online and sent through the mail.

I think of all the illicit activities one can discuss with friends/neighbors/coworkers, magic mushrooms is the least concerning and most likely to result in a positive connection. At least here on the west coast anyways, lots of people have access to mushrooms and consume them occasionally. You just have to develop trusting relationships with people around you, and that's generally regarded as a good thing anyways.

It's not too difficult to ask some people if they want to go camping, and while out in the woods bring up a curiosity about magic mushrooms. Anyone who goes camping with you is very likely to be open to the idea if not pull a bag of shrooms out of their backpack on the spot.

Agreed.

I'm surprised by the focus on large psychedelic trip doses and placebos in this thread. It's basically two opposing extremes.

I too have observed incredible effects of taking small below-threshold doses of psilocybin, with absolutely no negative effect whatsoever. It's tempting to incorporate half a stem into my regular morning routine like a vitamin.

The aesthetics of the Multipla didn't look out of place in China, where it was sold as the Zotye Multiplan and Zotye M300 Langyue.

As China's economy grew a number of American truck/van designs started looking more weird to western eyes like the Multipla than anything the likes of Dodge had previously designed. Designs target intended markets first and foremost.

Sloped bed rails exclude work use requiring any conventional bed-mounted toolboxes.

That design element alone has turned this into primarily a fun/status vehicle IMHO.

Which makes perfect sense, pickup trucks do benefit from a reduced radar signature greater than lighter weight body panels that are equally strong...

Every Tesla has gobs of torque, it doesn't qualify any of them as work trucks.

It's a toy, this is a recreational vehicle hence the ATV. Off-roaders often need compressed air to refill tires after deflating for traction in exceptional conditions like sand and snow.

The decision to have sloped bed-rails prevents mounting toolboxes anywhere on this thing, nor can you place oversized loads across them without sliding off. That alone precludes the vast majority of work truck applications. The 1st gen Honda Ridgeline had the same defect, to a lesser degree.

> I'm not sure if I'm thrilled or dismayed by the exterior design, but it's innovative and futuristic. It pushes the state of the industry forward.

It's unclear to me how an exterior design devoid of compound curves pushes the industry forward.

It's not a work truck.

Are you saying the wind storm that stranded Whatney in The Martian was inaccurate?

So much for that book being well researched...

Yeah, because that's what all the F150 buyers of the world really wanted, an angular flat-paneled ridiculous movie prop.

This thing alienates far more than it attracts in the pickup truck market.

When you move $1B from one financial instution to another, the receiving end will pay you to choose them over their competitors, as well as provide other incentives.

There's simply no comparison.

I'm similar, but have learned to just be more iterative when explaining complex topics.

Start with the simplest conveyance, which usually is riddled with the most bullshit. If you don't lose them, just add the corrections, if there are too many, only add some of the corrections, rinse, repeat.

Transferring controls between stations seems to have obvious utility if you consider the desire to relieve sailors without removing others from their stations. Give the helmsman a bathroom break by transferring the controls to another's station rather than having the people move to the controls.

The whole splitting of throttle/steering controls seems a bit odd to me however. I can't imagine a situation where I was at the helm and didn't want the throttle at my command as well.

Very cool project, I just wish the images on the website weren't many megabytes a piece. They can't even all load on my slow internet connection without timing out.

It's unfortunate how often people share files directly from their camera without first compressing and resizing them appropriately these days.

> get rid of the Linux/GNU heritage in Android

What GNU heritage? Android has only ever used the Linux kernel to get a leg up on hardware support in the early days. AFAIK there has never been any GNU userspace of any sort in anything Android related, much to the chagrin of the Linux community.

The parent may very well have been referring to Linux on Windows, in the form of a Linux VM. They didn't mention WSL at all.
