I'd gone down the rabbithole the last few days of whether to use kivy or beeware for a personal powerlifting app I'm building as side project / learning experience. I'd gone as far as settling on Kivy and installing the dependencies (which took an extra few hours until I learned only python <= 3.8 is used), and now this pops up here and I'm reconsidering everything... again. On paper Beeware sounds perfect for my needs, but the limited community support has me timid to try.

Youtube has paid staff whose sole duty is to remove videos that violate their TOS. Parler does not. That is the distinction AWS used in there reasonings to terminate service.

That is the point though. The reasons cited by AWS for their actions were due to violent posts and content moderation. When addressed with the issue Parler said they'd use volunteers to proactively moderate violent posts, but AWS said that "nascent plant to use volunteers to promptly identify and remove dangerous content will not work in light of the rapidly growing number of violent posts".

I'm sure they could differentiate the hug of death due to sudden popularity vs the continued onslaught of scripted bots just by frequency of requests, right? As in, single IP frequency of pings measured out across a batch of addresses. Those malicious would be more regimented with short recycle times, while those unmalicious would be browsing making their repeated calls erratic. (Honest question, I'm genuinely curious.)

In a way this is a relief to hear. I keep reading up on the excess productivity of others, while I'm pulling my hair out trying to manage normal work and my kids when on paper nothing much has changed given that I was WFH before this. It sucks, but I'm glad I'm not alone.
