The headline doesn't quite capture the human expert part, which is probably the most interesting aspect.

I ticker arrows could use explanation. I assume green is good and red is bad, but it's not immediately clear what the units are ect.

I don't imagine investors can be pleased that Apple has largely held iPhone prices constant since 2020 despite high inflation.

Charts showing the inflation-adjusted price of iPhones declining: https://www.perfectrec.com/posts/iPhone15-price

Wasn't there an entire ride share company predicated on this idea a few years ago?

Hey Sean! Hope all is well. Glad the take was at least memorable enough you did a double take. :-)

It's pretty wild that Apple has held prices down the last few years in the face of elevated inflation. I decided to calculate the inflation-adjusted price of every iPhone ever, and the 15 line are some of the most affordable (in 2023 dollars).

Full table and charts are here: https://www.perfectrec.com/posts/iPhone15-price

But the take aways are: - iPhone 15 is cheapest base model since the OG iPhone in 2007 - 15 Plus is cheapest large iPhone ever - 15 Pro is cheapest pro ever (and $250 cheaper than the first Pro model, the iPhone X).

The FTC is actually in the process of finalizing new regulations that would target abuses like these. Unfortunately, they only apply to the united states so will likely have little effect. This post goes into why the FTC's proposed regulations are likely to fail. https://www.perfectrec.com/posts/why-the-ftcs-new-fake-revie...

I really don’t see how a plan without international reach has any chance of being effective.

I'll take it.

And what are your go-to alternatives aside from Reddit?

What's your biggest wirecutter fail? I remember when they recommended Cisco Webex for pandemic era work-from-home newbies looking for easy video confrencing.

The visual aspect is a bit annoying, but in an era of insane reputation inflation, I think 5 star % makes more sense than average rating.

How would you view a reviewer who monetized with ads rather than affiliates? Do you see that as a distinction?
nowooski

Interesting distinction. Would they have earned your trust from a pre-affiliate era, or just from other non-review content you’ve consumed (assuming all of their review posts / YouTube videos have affiliate links?)

For sure. The garbage in, garbage out problem is quite real for ecommerce applications.

I agree. Apple is making an extraordinary claim and we think they should share their methodology.

Hey - I'm the post author. Thank you sharing these details on the Watch survey.

I do think there is something to the idea that people want to satisfied by something they spend a lot of money on. Though, 99% is a bit much.

Hey - I'm the post author.

Apple may use NetPromoter internally, but on the earnings calls they are citing satisfaction surveys from 451 Research.

In 2018, they shared some of the response categories from the survey. They are customer satisfaction questions "Very Satisfied, Somewhat satisfied." Not recommendation questions.

Hey - I'm the post author.

Thank you for reading! I don't think they are manipulating the data, rather that they are surveying an unrepresentative population of tech enthusiasts, and presenting it as if representative of the entire customer base.
