That's fair, I am typically typing stuff up on mobile, I rarely visit the site on desktop, and while I agree that those scenarios exist I wonder the frequency, dunno, AI identification is getting harder all the time :)

I don't use AI to post to my blog nor am I selling things, they exist...I think, dunno, as I find interesting blogs that seem readable I just add them to a list of sites I occasionally hit if I get bored of hacker news front page (and didn't feel like checking new posts like this)

That's a good point I hadn't thought of. Large scale "projects" like that are much easier sans humanoids.

Interesting side thought, dunno if it would give any real indication, but I assume the difference between pasting a bunch of text vs typing each character would seem like a potential indicator (for now) whether someone might have used AI to respond.

This may be slightly off topic :). But I think I see this happen in other places beyond just housing, and maybe the timeline varies, but at the end of the day, company X puts a bunch of money into building an attractive place to attract consumers Y, however on top of that, they are also looking to make money, so once the initial investment goes in, the hope is that you don't have to invest (as much) to maintain, but ultimately entropy sneaks in, and the things that once made something amazing break down, and if a owner didn't pull in as much as they hoped going into it, (plus let's be honest if the first two years, let's say, you didn't have to do any repairs, it's definitely a struggle to be like....yes let's fix that expensive thing immediately, inaction is much easier, and it is hard to see the effect immediately.).At some point the attractiveness has worn off so much, they have to rename/remodel to get new consumers in the door. Now of course this article doesn't mention going back to prior places to live. I wonder if they have ever returned to a place that....didn't remodel, but that they felt still was nice upon return for 2 years, I think that might indicate other issues.

In my mind I'm thinking about gyms, now they will look shiny and new for a few years and then just get rundown, even though they pulled in regular recurring payments from members.

I've thought about aspects of this off and on for a while, so it was a good read, I grew up making lefse with my mom, it's a big nostalgia hit for me, but my siblings don't make it, it's time consuming and sometimes I don't feel like it, and I wonder if the next generation or maybe even one more down the line will have just completely stopped making this. I think about what other things people used to make that just aren't really 'easy' to manufacture, or whatever and so they are only made by small groups of people and that will probably die off one day. I also think about the food we eat is largely designed to be the highest profit, we only have strawberries because they're cost effective enough, for now, but how many other fruit/vegetables/etc are we missing out on, because growing them are just too much of a hassle, and they're as good or better for us....sorry for the ramble but good read, def some things to think about

I mistakenly read this as training a trillion parameter model would be funny...at least I chuckled

I think that as communities spread (as with increased joining of online communities) we lost much in our local communities, this feels to me like a sort of extension of that, it's a community of one (well kinda, it's a sum of communities, and kinda missing the bidirectional communication, of the community) maybe?

Somewhat related I suppose, for reasons I am often in a situation where I can use matplotlib and make a plot then save it and then SCP it locally to view it. I got tired of that and started making command line plots so I can see the stuff I want right there, it's not insanely detailed but for my needs it's been fine. This def got me thinking about it lol

Definitely interesting, I don't see an obvious comment on hardware requirements, do you know what those are?

I've played around with OSRM, and Nominatim, etc, but had to do some trickery to run on a raspberry pi.

(For anyone interested in running some of these kind of things on a pi, I talk about it generally here, I need to post an update with more info at some point. http://blog.onaclovtech.com/2025/02/general-purpose-to-speci...)
