The successful entrepreneur makes his money by capital gains in the share or venture capital markets and not by extracting it from his employees. Employees compete with each other for salaries. Employer competes with other employers for both a)market share b) hiring employees -bidding up their prices.
By comparing gains from entrepreneurship with regular salaries, you are comparing a stock variable with a flow variable. Even Marx got this part correct
Poor logic. Without state support or food stamps Walmart or Amazon would pay the lower wage employees even less - because the food stamps establish a minimum bar which the employees can expect. Without that support, the market for low wage employees would be even more competitive resulting in lower wages
The right way to look at it is that workers already on state support are people who already have a bare minimum wage lower than which they won't get out of bed for. i.e Amazon would have had to pay LESS if the state support didn't exist.
Can someone explain why a librarian needs to study library science,if the primary job of libraries today now is to act as a community center and a place for people in trouble to get help. Maybe they should hire people who are social workers
The choking nullahs aren't merely full of plastic. It's debris from the massive construction, both private and govt. Has anyone seen road design in Mumbai? The "expressway" signal junctions are made of paver blocks. Gutters are full of mud. The floods won't stop even if all plastic vanished
The police cannot do any mass surveillance with AWS Recognition. For that they need access to huge amount of video feeds.IF they already have access to such video and use primitive techniques to sift through them for identifying criminals, then Rekognition makes it cheap and value for money for the taxpayers. Sifting through data to identify people is police work. Why hobble it by mandating that they use expensive outdated slow technology?
If the police has no access to streaming video feeds on a mass scale, the tool can't help. If they are accessing the feeds illegally, then they are breaking laws - AWS can terminate accounts. Any proof that they are doing this illegal activity?
Er, explain how the law enforcement is violating any terms and conditions. Domain fronting is illegal. Mass surveillance is what the NSA does for a living. If it is offensive to prime members, they have found the wrong tree to bark up
Don't they understand their own platform? AWS is self service. Anyone with a credit card can set up an account and consume Rekognition or any other service. It's not as if it has to be sold to the police by a sales person under some licensed/contract. No special software is being developed for ICE or the Orlando police.Forbes recently put together a face recognition system using AWS components under 30 dollars. WTF are these employees on about. Anyone is free to build on AWS. What's next? Ban police from purchasing stuff on Amazon retail? If you disagree with your govt, go tell your congressman instead of irritating everyone at work
Illogical. People who can't afford 2 bed rentals don't move to the nearby street if rents are unaffordable. They move to another town where they can afford the rents. Correlation isn't causation
1. Homelessness wasn't caused by Amazon.
2.The govt has a restrictive zoning policy not caused by Amazon but is the definitive cause of the housing shortage.
3.You give an easy pass to those whose exclusive job is to solve these problems by blaming it on those whose job it is not.
4.Govt takes the easy way out and comes up with the default hammer to every nail-more taxes and sensible people oppose it and somehow it's the sensible person's problem?
Do you even logic,bro?
The US government spends 9 billion per DAY. Perhaps you could ask your elected representative if they could divert 0.1 percent of it towards this problem instead of on spending on bombing brown people in far away lands -you realize the US spends more on military than next 14 countries with larger populations combined
Why are there thousands of homeless now? Is it a new phenomenon or a slow brewing thing. How can you conclude that recent massive hiring in Amazon has caused homelessness?
Why is there no discussion on rezoning single home areas to allow multistorey buildings? Can someone explain how the influx of tech workers has forced out existing Seattle citizens onto the roads? Are we sure that they are not out of towners? Why don't those who can't afford the high rents move to nearby cities and counties instead of living on the streets? Would any parent want this for their child? Would they not seek to rebuild somewhere else, especially if they actually had some employable skills that allowed them to rent a 2 bed flat in the first place? Cause and effect don't make sense here
Start from first principles, jobs are costs. We wanna reduce costs. Also, exports are costs, imports are the benefits. It is counterintuitive to most people, however
How are automaton owning plutocrats supposed to get rich if they don't sell their robot made wares to the plebs? It's silly to think that automation makes the poor poorer. It makes them richer. Only logical conclusion is that stuff will be cheap enough that real wages go up even if nominal ones dont.Look at any rich country, it's got an order of magnitude more automation than any poorer country and yet it's not the country with less automation that is better off. Why do barbers in rich countries earn more than those in poorer countries for essentially the exact skills? Baumol's disease anyone? Luddites need to think through this harder.
PS: if the evil robot owners produce stuff and keep it for themselves without selling them, the rest of the world still has needs that are unmet and we end up in exactly the world we have today
Hypotheticals don't work in law. You don't punish someone who hasn't commited a crime.thats common law. Now if it were Europe style civil law, it would be different.
Also if Google had died in its infancy, there's nothing that guarantees that another search engine would not not prop up. All great ideas come to fruition when the time is right. 'Search' was ready in 1999. Similarly many falsely believe that the internet wouldn't exist without DARPA. Note that packet switching etc had already found private profitability and without govt regulation would have expanded to become the foundation of the internet
