Any people with insight on why this happens? From my corporate experience this generally happens when two teams are working on a similar thing, they complain about turf to leadership, and leadership either makes them consolidate efforts or chooses a winner. Is that what happens at Google a lot? Or do they just constantly tweak things to the point they cease to live or be used?

I do wonder what type of AI some of these leaders expect to be able to harness. If you create something that is true AI, won’t it be smarter than you to a level you cannot fathom. I was thinking of this idea/though-experiment (which I know is ridiculous) of what if dogs created humans thinking they could control them, and then just wound up being pets because their survival now depended on that new hierarchy that previously didn’t exist.

Seems to be a lot of hubris with some AI thought leaders thinking control will remain with them and be absolute.

Switching out an LLM? What do you mean by this? Sure some models can run locally but in a company with lots do people they might not be willing to spend to self host a larger model that requires beefier hardware to host, plus all the complexity to scale that out to a bit internal user-base

Have a loved one that has extremely low vitamin D issues. Takes ergocalciferol from time to time and it is pretty useful in my opinion.

Isn’t tool drift/version also a benefit? Especially in scenarios where the use must be standardized and up to date?

One thing I find concerning is the amount of people I see driving these days with AirPods. Don’t think they can hear emergency sirens or honks very well that way. I think it it’s even illegal in some locations. I assume they do this in older cars without a way to connect their phone or just like immersive sound.

I got diverted to Roswell once and it was very cool flying in and seeing the airplane graveyard there. Not sure it’s little known but it was to me.

At this point is it even pay that’s tempting or is it more about what they get to do? I would assume Google could easily pay them what openAI can, unless as an older company it’s harder for Google to match something really out there

I think also, just seeing non-technical friends and family interact with it, there’s a lot of massaging you have to do right now to get it to work that just goes over their heads. Until they gets pushed behind an abstraction layer I see adoption crawling at a certain point.

I think AI will accelerate this, but I think YouTube, TikTok, and podcasts have splintered the market so much there’s not as much space for mega self-help stars anymore, just a lot of middle class ones.

Isn’t the inverse of this “hack” really difficult to bypass still? They have the model some code they knew had certain security flaws and it fixed them with the right prompt. It seems this type of jailbreak requires that you already know a desired end state, rather than relying on the model to do the heavy creative lift work. Perhaps I’m just not being imaginative enough on the prompt side here though.

Depending on quantization I figure they need at least a p4 and likely a p5 EC2 (or similar instance in another provider) for a model with that many parameters. Maybe they are hosting on bare metal but I imagine not. Those instance types (assuming not using spot) are quite expensive to run.

A weight lifting app. I’ve paid for, and used, others over the years, but I always wanted to customize them in some way just for me. So, I just decided to create one the other day (used antigravity CLI) and I’m hosting it on Vercel as a PWA. I’m enjoying it so far and see a lot of potential with making hyper-personal software moving forward.

I’ve always wondered would most of us, used to modern conveniences, even last very long mentally in an apocalyptic situation (or even want to)?

Would this inefficiency be acceptable if it’s transmitting power over rugged/impassable terrain?
