The best is when the microwave is still perfectly capable of functioning, but the membrane keypad starts to go bad and then you can't actually use the microwave anymore.

Want to repair just that part because it's the most unreliable and most likely to break? Well LG only sells the entire door as a replacement part and it's $200 despite the fact that the original microwave costs $400.

Is this a just a real product release post, themed as an April fool's prank? I found the whole thing to be extremely confusing.

Unless I'm misunderstanding it, the idea of pinebuds makes perfect sense considering some of the other devices they've created.

On the other hand, some of the language they used, such as how they mentioned browsing the apple store as R&D, makes this kinda seem like a joke.

I'm not sure if you've ever dabbled in HTML email development but I would definitely not recommend it as a starting point for learning basic HTML.

I think the entire point of this project is show people that they can make a website without having to be afraid of having the type of experience you just described.

If you just use HTML, then the words that you choose to write will be the words that everyone will read.

Any "pixel placement" is optional and shouldn't be a detering factor.

For the core services? Definitely. But do we really know that some 3rd party API which doesn't fail gracefully isn't causing this?

I think there's a universe where there is no overlap between engineers/PMs who work on the actual DB product and website/content marketing site.

The marketing space is filled with all kinds of "plug and play" SaaS providers which offer detailed customer journey data and sometimes it's just straight up easier to add an "accept all" consent banner than to try and allow for hot loading specific 3rd party libraries based on customized consent options.

Is it the right thing to do? In my opinion, no. But I can also understand a situation where decisions were made on marketing tech before understanding the technical privacy implications. And then the implementation is handled by a team (potentially much smaller) that does not work on the actual product.

Maybe it's different for me since I'm on mobile but I was really bothered by the huge left margin that didn't match the size of the right margin

Just wanted to say that I've been wanting something like Lunar for quite some time but didn't know it existed. It looks amazing! I'm going to try it out and will happily pay for it if it ends up working well.

My take away was that the author doesn't necessarily claim to have all the answers here. It's more of a list of general guidance that is reverse engineered from the type of behavior the she observed was definitely unsuccessful.

My best guess is that amazon is using the entities associated with the registered trademark as some form of proof of identity. So since there was no registered trademark for Acme Klein Bottle, there was nothing to compare the new identity to when Amvoom submitted their request.

I really hope I'm wrong though because this sounds like a very lazy and flawed system.

They are talking about renting a VM from a cloud provider and setting up the DB themselves (example: EC2) vs renting a fully managed DB from a cloud service provider (example: RDS).

I think what they were getting at is: there's a minimal difference in terms of "look and feel" between non-tesla EVs and the gas counterparts designed by the same manufacturer.

Tesla very much intends to redefine the driver experience as we know it. In the model 3, the entire control system in the center of the dashboard has been replaced by a giant singular 15" carputer touch screen.

If you don't believe me, you can make the comparison for yourself. Just do an image search for the interior on the Model 3 and compare it to that of a Nissan Leaf or Chevy Bolt.

No need to imagine! Just search HN for "cloudflare outage" and you'll see that it happened several times over the last few years

Maybe they're just trolling us for pure entertainment. I imagine it would get boring up there for them, silently watching an intellectually inferior lifeform day after day.

I'll go one further and say that some are actually quicker than Amazon. I've recently bought two different items from bestbuy.com that I would have normally bought from Amazon when prime shipping actually took two days.

In both cases bestbuy's free shipping could get the items to my house 1 day quicker than amazon so I went with them.

In a similar vein, I also get bothered by the unrealistic fact that there are never compatibility issues between any given device/technology.

Since we are talking about The Expanse, I think a great example is whatever protocol allows for characters to physically fling data from their devices to other people's devices with a simple swipe.

I'll ignore the fact that sometimes they do this in city streets where they are surrounded by many potential recipients and somehow always deliver the payload to the right person...

But how likely is it that every single device's manufacturer implements that protocol in the same, non-proprietary way?

I've always thought it would be really interesting to write a show where the characters speak in a way that mimics how real human being communicate with each other on a daily basis.

It might end up being really bad and hard to watch but I think it could be a refreshing alternative to what we have now where every character is able to give an on-the-spot motivational speech with the confidence of someone who rehearsed it for months before delivering it.

Just a real fictional story that includes realistic human dialog.

I hate to be the one to break this to you but GA usually isn't as invasive as you seem to think. It's mainly tracking things like time on a page, links clicked, bounce rates, etc.

It's not deep scanning your hard drive to try and figure out your SSN or medical history like some people think.

The biggest reason is that google doesn't provide the utility that each of these individual libraries brings to the table. Even if they did, there's nothing that says the total "omega tracking bundle" that you'd be downloading from Google would be any smaller than the aggregated total of these libraries. You'd definitely have fewer network requests but I'm not sure that would really move the needle as much as you'd want.

While there is probably a bit of overlap, many of the above tools have very different use cases. For example, chartbeat is commonly used more on the editorial side for writers to track article performance but imrworldwide is a subdomain own by Neilson that they use to serve their sdk which offers metrics for preroll video ads. Hotjar provides user heat maps but sail-horizon is part of sailthru and used for email marketing.

You're probably joking sarcastically, but in case you aren't, you can click both sides of the track pad or three finger tap (if supported) to preform a middle click.
