This is insane that Meta has been sharing all WhatsApp metadata with the Israeli Occupation Force, but neither am I surprised. Im sure the US government is likely also using this to conduct a witchhunt of anti-Genocide voices.
On really? In that case they definitely would not want to allow this project to cannibalize their revenue. On the other hand, it makes it harder for them to change their APIs then as it impacts clients not directly under their control.
Wow that's impressive. But I would imagine WhatsApp/Facebook can just change their protocol at any time since it is easy to redeploy a new version of the WhatsApp Web client, thus breaking any 3p clients built on the original protocol. That would require yet another reverse engineering effort that can take a while. And by the time its reverse engineered again, they can yet again change the protocol. So the only reliable way to create 3p clients would be if WhatsApp itself publicly publishes its protocol.
This is not a very scholarly article, and very disparaging to say the least. It claims that Zheng He "did little to develop trade" and "contributed nothing to navigational knowledge" and that all he effectively did was assist in "the gradual spread of Islam". Have we considered to evaluate ourselves, on how we perhaps may be suppressing the reality of Chinese historical accomplishments by elevating such articles? It ignores many of his tangible accomplishments, like clearing the waters of pirates that plagued Chinese maritime trade.
This issue isn't just plaguing the tech industry. This is an issue affecting the entire Western society, from Tech and Entertainment industries to even religious institutions. Its time at last for society to realign itself. But lets keep in mind that while such matters should be brought to public attention, lets also let the jury be the ones to deliver the verdicts.
I remember using the Merlin Microsoft Agent to create speech-based "apps" in 2001, including text-to-speech as well as speech recognition. I made a SAT preparation that would test me by presenting a word and I had to say the meaning. I also made a Spanish learning app using Merlin, where it would read out the spanish word (in spanish!) and I would have to say the english one. It worked really well. Its been 16 years since then, and I have to say that I had expected this area to have been completely "solved" by now.
Certainly a cunning / savvy way to take advantage of such platforms, but when overused, sites like Quora become notorious and their effectiveness would decrease over time.
Another category I'd add are those employees who choose to work in the bay area so that on the side they can be part of the startup scene to find co-founders or investors as they plan on pursuing their next big idea.
Umm; did they just contradict themselves?
"We remain inside the Italian nation with more autonomy while Catalonia wants to become the 29th state of the European Union. We, no. Not for now." - So, they don't want to be seen like Catalonia, yet they say "Not for now" meaning they must be seen as such. I think the whole theory of giving certain regions extra autonomy while expecting that region to forever be part of the unified country has now been completely dumped.
