> It's a shame all these very picky recruitment processes and 'culture' of these giant companies didn't care about ethics and morality.

Oh, it absolutely does, just not in the direction that's good for society. OpenAI (as one example) didn't become like this by accident, it was intentional. Sam Altman isn't going to hire ethical leadership for his company, they would just get in his way.

Funny, I'm rereading Crime and Punishment for the first time since high school and I can't get over how much Raskolnikov comes off as an angsty teenager. I probably understand him better now but related to him more as a teen

I mean, yeah, if I wasn't a native speaker I'd find those confusing, especially Margaret and Peg

If I hadn't grown up hearing those nicknames I would find them confusing as well. It's not natural for a non-native speaker to figure out Dunya, Dunechka, and Avdotya are the same person.

Similarly, Dmitri Prokofych Razumikhin is referred to as Razumikhin 95% of the time, then suddenly people are referring to Dimitry Prokofych and I've got to look up who that is.

> If we want to ban models in school, ban laptops/chromebooks with internet.

Now we're talkin'

I'm all for it, let's teach kids the fundamentals of the world without relying on computers before we introduce them

The founding fathers created a document that was already struggling with modern realities prior to Trump. 250 years is not a particularly impressive amount of time for a country to not fall apart.

If I put a project on github that says "don't use this with mysql" and you use it with mysql and it drops your tables is it sql injection? Seems very different to me.

How about we set up that safety net first for once then?

You don't put on your seat belt during an accident, you don't start driving until it is on.

You are playing a role at every job. In 20+ years I've never had a job where there would be no negative consequences for speaking truth to power

Easy to say it all worked out fine when you aren't one of the people who was displaced. They might feel differently.

It may have worked out fine for humanity as a whole, but it ignores the suffering of a lot of people.

Managers DO cross team boundaries though, their peers are other managers. I can't talk to the 100 people in my department every week, but my manager can talk to their 9 peers, who each talk to their 10 reports.
