I hope my child will be able to sincerely evaluate her talent, ambition, and capability to make the right choice. There isn’t anything wrong with perusing art per se, but a vast majority of people just aren’t good enough to make their pursuit of art impactful and beneficial to those around them.

This was really eye opening. Thank you for posting. In your opinion, what stops people from organizing to form a new government?

I think it’s a little myopic to critique software engineering for a lack of focus on performance. Software engineers generally work on products, and performance is only one facet of a product. Just enough time is spent on performance until it is good enough. Any extra time spent on performance detracts from making other facets reach the “good enough” point. Sure, you can make a focus on performance part of the product (e.g. the fastest terminal), but the general product equation still applies.

They will use the microphone to fingerprint the audio in your room to figure out what you’re watching. Watching Ted Lasso on your Apple TV? Now they know. This was done on Samsung Smart TVs, and is only the beginning of the data they can collect.

How do you distinguish between creating and honing a skill? Some of the best engineers I know were top-level video game players in their youth. Video games taught them how to get really good at something.

To be fair to Chris Carter, he does illustrate that his position as creator of the X-Files made him a magnate for tales of extraterrestrial encounters during the 90s. I do agree, though, that he fails to convey how purported UFO sightings in the 90s are relevant to the current navy reports.

Many people believe disinformation spread on social media is a huge problem. Knowing this, is it really a good idea to give a CCP-controlled company direct access to the minds of our youngest generation?
