The issue is that the corporations are allowed to spread virtually unchecked out of the borders of their 'home' country. This allows them to grow virtually unchecked, and use the information friction between country's governments to obfuscate what's happening.
why does exceptional ability in one translate to sub-par in another? And why does it matter? We would all agree that a Cheetah is much better at running fast than a house-cat, but that does not take away from either animal.
People so often want equal outcomes, and regardless of what the US Constitution says, all men (and women) are not created equal. It does not mean one is better than the other, just that we are different.
yeah, the young ones have spent the last several years distancing themselves from everything the old man has done, that doing anything that the old man does is seen as regressive. They don't want to do it the way the old man does until they ARE the old man.
I've never really understood the problem with green screen programs: for most businesses, a green screen is perfectly usable, and it has the added bandwidth of low bandwidth requirements. A company I worked for uses Windows apps hosted in a Citrix environment. A green screen would lower the bandwidth requirements and remove a lot of the parasitic drag between servicing the customer and storing data.
with an electronic, Internet system it's impossible to prevent manipulation on a global level. With paper, in person voting, manipulation is restricted to the local geographical area. Also, a smaller distributed collection/collation system lends itself to less vulnerability to an system-wide attack.
We keep on forgetting the lessons we learned with the Internet, and de-centralized government before that...
This is where I take the time to explain to everyone that "Yeah, while it may save you time to do it manually, if you do it THIS way instead, you never have to write it from scratch again, and your output goes waaay up".
Every job I've ever had, I always look at how my predecessors do the job, then automate the crap that I don't want to deal with. :/
as a counterpoint, take a group of singers - if they all sing their own song, chaos. Then, take of group of singers singing the same song in different keys: terrible music. Finally, take a group of singers singing the same song, in the same key: art. Diversity for the sake of diversity is no better than a group of people all singing their own song. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that the only way to be great is to be diverse.
yeah, it would be interesting to crowd source surveillance of a high-profile public official, and place the info on the Internet. After all - if there's no expectation of privacy, it does cut both ways, right?
But I'm sure there would be some law somewhere that would be brought into play.
sounds like this is really prejudiced against poor people. Why is a poor neighborhood inherently more stressful than a rich neighborhood? What's the root cause? Not enough XBox's per capita?
we should be worried because we are humans - every human endeavor will, at some point, turn bad. It's human nature. Nationalism is good, to point. So are many other things. Blind nationalism with no empathy for anyone other than your own countrymen can be (but not necessarily is) bad.
If you think there is any form of human institution than cannot be subverted to evil acts, you are uninformed.
Not being an electrical engineer, I wonder how hard it would be to build a company that provides battery-based (or some other technology) storage of power during off peak hours (buy it from the grid at off-peak power rates) and supply it back in as demand/production balance changes, to even out the demand to the power company?
