As a Greek I feel proud that we passed through all history tides during our high times: multiple cycles of thriving and decline, the last one being the Classical century of 5th BC, then the Hellenistic period of Alexander until we passed the baton of civilization to the Romans.

This lasted for a full thousand years until a little before Jesus birth and it continued in Europe and the rest of the world in the same way for two more until today.

It seems the reasons of decline were most often the boring ones: variable scale fightings and climate change. Any resemblance to modern times is not coincidental.

It's simple. Ambs in the US are all private companies. Everywhere in the world private ambs are also extremely expensive and public ones free of charge. There is no truly public amb ride in the US.

Microplastics are even suspected for the low sperm count and power of men after the 70's. We can attribute to them any effect we observe today. It's insane. Let's accept that we cannot causaly link MPs with anything because we do not control the exposure and cannot perform a randomised trial. That is more scientific and sincere.

It is sad but inevitable in a free market. The line between a good and an addictive product is often blur. OK, cocaine is addictive and a nice restaurant meal is good but everything else lies inbetween. In the end, I believe after 3-5 year Meta will pay 1.4 billions instead of trillions and 'business as usual'.

Placebo is a multi trillion market. Not only in the form of vitamin, dietary supplement or other non-active pill but also of shopping, psycho-boosting or feel-good behaviour. Even religion is a form of placebo!

I am fed up with various "products" that come to my door: mix of vitamins, a-lipoic acid and ashwagada. I can imagine among the billions of physically healthy adults, there are many that choose them. While regulation for drugs is strict, for these products it is less that potato chips. The FDA goes like, as soon as they sell snake oil that doesn't hurt anyone, let the market loose.

Not much will be done: Europe will not manage to become sovereign and independent from the US. Things change slowly and a next Dep POTUS will come again closer to Europe. My opinion, not advice for investment.

For such widespread factors any correlation not based on randomised controlled trials should be dismissed. There is so much confounding that you end up measuring smoking vs heart disease. I will not be surprised by the result, cannabis usage increases lung cancer risk.

mRNA seems to me as the perfect method to insert controlled, short lived proteins to the bloodstream. Simple, clean, deterministic and seemingly safe and it turned out to be such. In vaccine development, if the technique has similar maturity and application as the traditional egg-based one, I am sure it will rival it in safety, speed, cost, width of diseases.

I am also a doctor (neurologist). I don't doubt the diagnosis and the cause, as I have seen such cases in 2021/2. I only say being a doctor and having such a side effect are independent so you must be one of a few cases in the world.

In an intramuscular injection this is always tested by the nurse and this complication is far rarer than a nerve injury by the syringe. But in billions of cases anything can happen.

I don't distinguish a phone from other electronic home devices I also happen to buy. I don't change their firmware for various reasons, like not worth it (eg fridge, washing machine), illegal (eg set top box or car) or impossible. Being able to even enable developer mode in Android and do anything more than designed for a regular user goes already too far in relation to the other devices. Is there any car that you can boost with tapping seven times its gas tank cap? And I am afraid it will be removed someday in the future like the bootloaders became locked one after another. PCs are another story, an open remnant from the past, that the hard and soft tech companies sweared not to leave happen the same mistake again with phones. The term "buy" and it's rights are not inherited from a PC to a phone.

I am not an advocate for the greedy tech companies but I am trying to give some rational perspective of the balance of power between them and us. If we want openness we cannot reach it with wishful saying.

These huge but turn-out-to-be nothing fines by the EU due to antitrust reasons seem a joke already. It is a laughable small percentage of the profits being imposed every now and then and when they feel like. The same holds for similar fines by specific countries. I will not be surprised if the paid sums end up to burocratic fueling or even corrupt high rank pockets. They have absolutely no impact to the company's behaviour. It's like the parking fine on the street costs less than a paid lot.

Let's see some points:

1) side loading, or however it's called, is used by less than 1-2% of global Android users (we can't be more than 50 million). Google made us a favor leaving it open after an only 24h delay. It could be much worse but now it's nothing in our eternal tinkering with developer options. Thank you from me Google.

2) GMS is a huge convenience for any app developer that needs tight control, including governments. They can secure their apps against users of any hat color. Add to that the possibility of hidden backdoors to support surveillance and Google's direct lobbying in EU. This makes it very difficult to go without it, even under the current anti-US EU direction and it will be the last that will be replaced in Europe.

3) There are various levels of "degoogling". From installing a totally open OS without or with microG, to just don't login to a Google account in stock Android. It's a spectrum but someone at the free edge will never have the same rights with one in the jailed edge.

4) Developer verif is NOT to prevent ad blocking. There is a simple and free method to block anything you like at DNS level: just select Private DNS and insert an appropriate URL for ads/trackers/porn etc, eg from controld.com. Find some other justification, like tight user control to continue sleeping with the governments or reach ultimate user surveillance with the upcoming children ident.

There is the podman-docker package that seamlessly emulates docker using podman. Eg for Arch Linux https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/podman-docker/

Greece. They test for congenital hypothyroidism (which leads to cretinism) too.

DNA info is not so much of value as it sounds. Genetic testing has very poor results and therapy is almost non existent. If they (govs and orgs) could extract value, they would make it mandatory for all, like fingerprint and face photo.

At least in my country a blood sample is taken from every newborn to test for specific preventable genetic diseases (eg phenyl-ketonuria).

A baby will become a powerful adult after 30 years, when their DNA info might become valuable (for forensic, health, research or other reasons). It's a long time for the investment to return. Why not sequence all people's DNA now, obligatory by law. All that it's needed is a little saliva and a wide lab infra.

Even in Southern Europe the winter day is 2+2 hours less than the summer. Not only I am PRO-DST but I advocate for a full two hour change. It's not 20th century any more. Most jobs start later, people want to enjoy after job and LEDs offer bright light if needed. Tell the Spaniards where the sun sets later that the Dutch.

Anaerobic exercise, which typically is done with weightlifting, converts muscles to a huge anabolic gland. Do squats/deadlifts with good technique and reap lifetime benefits. Add aerobic as habit, like use feet/bicycle and stairs at every occasion and you will be fine. First order effects are better shape and stamina, that lead to second order like better cognition, mood and even less cancer.

I live without Google Play on a Huawei device. I keep my data on Google, though, accessing them with OSS apps over OAuth2. It is a viable experience as my ebanking works from the browser and the Greek gov's app does not need GP. Now, if to be a European needs GP, it will be a shame and disgrace.

Worse. The black lines of the unit will look like dirt. Any solution will be a cultural devastation.
