I believe that local models are a necessary extension of the personal computer and I imagine that one could have had similar criticisms of early personal computers.

> And how exactly do they plan on enforcing all of this? Great Firewall of America?

That's what Cloudflare will be for.

There is, they just hide it behind things like "Do you believe a president can have more than 2 terms?"

Do they still not let you change the default model folder? You had to go through this whole song and dance to manually register a model via a pointless dockerfile wannabe that then seemed to copy the original model into their hash storage (again, unable to change where that storage lived).

At the time I dropped it for LMStudio, which to be fair was not fully open source either, but at least exposed the model folder and integrated with HF rather than a proprietary model garden for no good reason.

It also seems rather off base on the sentiment analysis as well.

>"We are on day three of President Trump's military operation in Iran. It's the most courageous military decision of my lifetime, and we are kicking a*. The United States military and the Israeli military, working in tandem, are kicking the hell out of the Iranian government. How is Iran planning to fight back? They have friends. They're counting on pathetic, mewling Europeans and the ridiculous, sad sack Democrats who just hate Trump and don't care about America winning."

More specifically, the Border Patrol are spying on reddit users. Why are they creating these reports themselves and not relying on other agencies to investigate? Does border patrol have jurisdiction over all national security matters?

>The spying is revealed in a January intelligence bulletin produced by the Border Patrol and leaked to me.

> ICE says it is attempting to better understand how commercial big data providers and advertising technology firms might directly support investigative activities, while remaining sensitive to “regulatory constraints and privacy expectations.”

That's rich and i'll believe it when they respect the written law.

To be clear, I fully expect other departments have been investigating these sorts of things in past and present, but ice have conducted themselves differently now and should be treated accordingly.

So the only point someone could conceivably write this article, in your mind, would be the moment after its writers and platforms would be subjected to state-sanctioned punishment for uttering it?

I'll accept a little front-running then, if you don't mind.

The issue is that there is a place where this model ~is working. It's in China and Russia. The GFW, its Russian equivalent, and the national security laws binding all of their tech companies and public discussion do exactly these things in a way that has allowed their leadership to go unchallenged for decades now.

The rest of the world isn't stupid or silly for suggesting these policies. They're following a proven effective model for the outcomes they are looking for.

We do ourselves a disservice by acting like there is some inherent flaw in it.

So speculation then. Here's some more: because it won't be a dragged out meat-grinder if he has a puppet US administration/political party.

By your own admission a defensive security guarantee will "kick off a great power war..." which is a way of saying Russia can't be trusted to keep the peace, no? Not that I disagree but I'm not sure it's as strong an argument against Ukraine's request as you think it is. It may have even been part of Neville Chamberlain's notes on the subject.

Given Ukraine has now been invaded multiple times by Russia it seems entirely right and reasonable for it to ask for guarantees, and not an imposition if the other nation was truly an Ally, in the formal definition of the word, no?

Are you asking people to read the mind of Putin? Or speculate? It seems reasonable to believe that at the very least Putin wants the territory he attempted to take when he first invaded, Kyiv et.al.

Why would that change if he hasn't?

No, it doesn't.
