Cant get smacked down for telling the truth. Kobach should have gone with Brownback and just left us alone.

Not hearing a case is nearly as impactful as hearing one. Its just easier to overturn it in the future if they want to.

The sole reason I have the android app installed is for the QR sign in for my desktop.

I wish it would actually work on Linux. I had to give up and just install OBS to share my gameplay with my friends.

>Everyone is using Discord; from adult professionals to clueless kids who barely know how to connect to Wifi.

>you need to reconsider your conceptions of what makes a great UX

Just because people are using a app without any real competitors doesn't mean that the UX is great. There is a lot of software that does its job well enough that people deal with the bad UI/UX.

Discord's UX is basically a slot machine from Vegas. Its obnoxious.

You are right, It looks like they changed it in April. I was wrong, it wasn't 5mb it was 8mb.

I am glad they upped the cap. I might have to try it out tonight, but I have effectively ditched it as a platform after the user name fiasco. I don't know if I can drop the way the file transfer size limit made me feel. I think you can tell a lot about a company by the way they want to monetize. If they were willing to force a subscription in order to share screenshots what else are they willing to do.

That must be something they added recently-ish. I wonder how walled it really is. I also wonder if they remove the arbitrary rules like the 5mb limit on files.

I'll have to look into Matrix. I have been looking for something to replace discord. I have so many gripes about discord but I'll give you the most egregious. I cannot share a screenshot because I have a 1440p monitor and the output file is over 5mb. Sometimes my dislike of discord feels like I am an old man yelling at clouds but then I remember the 5mb transfer limit.

The location of the door really doesn't allow it to be opened while its in the water. I would guess, as I have no evidence other than an untrained eye, that the window would either be fully underwater or at least partially underwater. It would sink if it was opened. Not to mention that they would need to equalize the pressure inside the sub to even push it open.

I would honestly choose that over sitting on the bottom for 96 hours. Something about sitting there for 4 days with no hope is more terrifying to me.

I hope he can find some happiness. What he and the team have accomplished is crazy. Its also crazy to think that no job opportunities have come out of it. Wishing him the best!

>But I'm not alone, that's why this whole fiasco will likely blow over. Most people don't know and/or don't care about these apps, but they use Reddit. The HN crowd is not your typical home user, or a "get off my lawn" type like myself. Even though I have multiple decades of working as a software engineer.

I mean sure, its not the vast majority of users utilize 3rd party apps. I also wouldn't say its a small number. RiF has been downloaded on the Android App store 5 Million times. That's just one of the apps. I know apollo has even more users. I'm not on IOS so I cant really search it right (not willing to lol).

I am sure it will blow over also, but the site is going to be worse for it. Its also a matter of time before he comes to remove old.reddit in hopes of squeezing blood from the stone. Its not a profitable venture. It wasn't and never will be.

I despise Discord, but Discord's app works well. Its kind of like the Yin to Reddit's UI Yang.

I'm glad it works for you, but its never worked right for me. It always seemed to be messing up links and the UI is so bad. I prefer my client to be minimal and functional and that's why I went with Reddit is Fun. Simple UI that worked and could manage the comment section successfully.

Honestly, it feels like the Reddit team saw one of the "Everything Apps" from China and thought its UI and UX where something to be modeled after.

I simply wish they would have attempted to buy Apollo and RiF. Then offer them up as official clients. RiF is the only way that I will interact with Reddit because of the way it is laid out and how functional it is. That's where my hate come from. They are effectively killing Reddit for many of us.

The best part about this is removing regulations wont change any prices. They will just keep the profits and continue to raise prices.

1) Company Complains about regulations 2) Gov Removes Regulations 3) Companies do dumb stuff 4) Gov Applies Regulations 5) People forget about dumb stuff 6) Return to step 1.

Case In Point: SVB

Sometimes it wont show me current tweets. My timeline is full of accounts that I don't follow and nobody I follow replied. I had to block musk's account because it was the only thing I was seeing. Tweets disappear when I try to look at them. Its been frustrating to say the least.

You could chuck most of Musk's portfolio into that category TBH. What ever company does that dumb tunnel idea and Tesla are the two additional companies that come to mind.

I am not sure what you mean by them being open about it. Looks to me that they are open about the funding they get. Them getting grants to service communities that are not profitable doesn't mean that they take marching orders from Washington.
