I gotta say I’m impressed, this thread has over 300 comments and everything still feels smooth, for a dynamic site that’s quite the feat to escape the hn hug of death.
I worked for a pharma co for a while, they did have a social media listening department in marketing, also we were trained to report any discussion of the company at all to a special investigations unit that would follow up.
I always thought that was kinda the point of an OS, it differentiates itself based on how it does drivers and hardware management, it wraps it all in neat apis so that developers can focus on making over-engineered resource intensive chat clients.
probably also about familiarity. while they probably could have mashed together something using html and css, excel is all about nice looking tables and charts. If only they offered a way to embed them instead of needing to take low res screenshots...
